If you're talking about some kind of conversion process to use Quake4 models in Quake1,
then I think it may be a step too far.

Quake 1,2,3 models I think are supported by Darkplaces but there might be some mucking about needed.
Doom3 engine assets (of which Q4 is based on) are, I believe, out of reach.

You might be able to open Doom3 models (using a plugin converter) in Blender and then pop them out as Quake3 models which Darkplaces does support.

Is that what you are wanting to do?

I have started making Quake weapon replacements in Blender and then exporting them as Quake3 models.
You can name them the same as their original Quake equivalents (eg nailgun.mdl) and Darkplaces knows what to do with them.

      Hello Priest777,

The .pk4 files can be opened with winzip, winrar, 7zip or similar.
Fight your way through the archives until you find models. You will need textures later as well.

You mean in your Quake 1 ?
If you only want to have a static model converted into Quake1, that should be no problem at all. As static models have no animations and only consists of a mesh+texture.
And you will always find a converter into .obj for example. That is absolutely enough for your static model.
Important thing is, that you convert your static models into something well known, heavily used and well supported. Just like .obj. Changing from .obj into a Quake1 format is only one click then (which you do not need with your favorite dp engine by the way).

If you are not sure which tool the convertion does for you, then why not type this into google: "convert xxx to yyy". And it will come up with many answers and links
You always have Blender, Noesis and even Milkshape for static models like the once you said.

If it comes to animated models, like monsters, it is a completely different story.
You will need to merge 2 files (Mesh + Anim) into 1, which only a very few tools can do without issues. If you are a warez-boy then you will use 3dmax. If you are a nice boy then you will use blender and one of its many many many plugins. Many of them are at katsbits. But google will tell you for sure
There are even tutorials how to convert md5 to md3 available.

as Seven said, it's a pretty simple process when it comes to static models like ammo boxes/items etc. I have my own pk3 for Quake 3 which has a whole range of replacements i've gathered/converted from other games like Quake 4:

I use Milkshape personally as its fine for pretty much anything that doesn't involve animations.

          Hello AndehX,

Milkshape is also my favorite and first attempt when I try to convert things, as it has the most simple gui. After that comes Noesis for me if Milkshape fails. When all of them fail, I start Blender and try to fight my way trough the very difficult gui (if people dont use it on a regular basis).

For the lazy ones among us:
There is a complete zip file with all Quake3 player models and all Doom3 monsters converted into single .md3īs. Also included are a lot of static models. That is of course highly not allowed to post and I was also very suprised when I once found and downloaded that pack in an official forum.
But then again: Is there something you cannot find on the internet ? I guess not.
