  • How do i play co-op?

Me and my friend want to play some Quake, but even though i forwarded port 26000 (TCP and UDP), and put "-listen" as a launch command, it still won't let him connect. We also tried connecting via "connect <insert IP here>" but that didn't work either.

I know i have the right IP address, but it's still not working. We use QuakeSpasm btw.

If you and your friend plug your ethernet cable directly into your cable or DSL connection, removing your router it will work --- provided whoever is going to be the server didn't tell Windows to block the port on accident and assuming whoever is going to be the server doesn't have some horrible anti-virus solution that blocks ports.

If you don't, it will involve messing with your router settings -- most people posting this question, it ends in failure. Like http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-hel...desperate.html . You'd be better off if both of you connected to a coop server. Non-technical people generally simply can't make it work, unfortunately, there are a lot of threads about this historically and even with the best advice they don't pan out hardly ever.

The best solution would be to use DarkPlaces or ezQuake and type connect 72.25.48.220:27503 (which is an awesome Quakeworld coop server) in the console (this won't work for Quakespasm because it isn't a Quakeworld client) and you wouldn't need to disconnect your router or anything.

Quakespasm isn't your friend for playing online --- doesn't have any kind of map download.

      Hi QP69,
Just to expand upon a point touched on by the mighty Baker ( all hail ), have you tried connecting to one of the existing netQuake coop servers? It might be the path of least resistance so if you and your friend want to try one you could do the following:
      1. Ensure that you have one of the latest supported Quake Engines such as Darkplaces, Qrack or ProQuake
      2. Download a pack containing a number of the custom maps these servers use from http://www.quake-1.com/files/maps/rq...us-set2-r2.exe
      3. Fire up your quake engine and go in to console.
      4. If you are in the USA type connect newyork.servequake.com:26001 and press return
      5. If you are presented with the "intro" map select the map you want to play by hitting the appropriate image, wait for it to rise and present you with a teleporter and then walk through the teleporter
      6. And finally, and most importantly, have fun

If there are any maps missing from the pack you should be able to get them from the online collections: USA | Europe (UK) (Mainland)

      Hope this helps

      Monty

What a shame, it worked a couple of weeks ago.
