Wait, no one knows about this?

Then im guessing you are t familiar with Open Quartz and Open Quartz Plus.

A lot of the assets are placeholders, and there aren't many people co tributing to the project as of late, but its clost to a version 1.0 release.

raymoohawk has done a number of sprites for Freedoom here:https://www.doomworld.com/vb/freedoo...-sprite-edits/

CWolf has done a number of decorations, both edits and original.
    https://www.doomworld.com/vb/freedoo...prites-hangar/

We even talked about a "FreeQuake"
    https://www.doomworld.com/vb/freedoo...out-freequake/

    Check out all the threads

    Im glad you like it!

Well of course I like it!

Im on a lookout for stuff like this, its like a complete game.. you know? awesome! Just download and play

If you or anybody else knows more awesome stuff like this to play, you can put it in here Playing through this certainly brought tons of gladness to my heart

I love this game. Like it reminds me of early 90s, how many 3.5 floppy disks for compressed VGA graphics and sound can this game fit into? And there's a monster lurking behind every corner in this game MUuuAARGHHOOUUuuu!! hehehe

Well ill be honest here, there are some maps that are missing, such as E3M3 (nothing but a square room a switch, and a message to the player).

Has anyone tried this indie game?
        SCP - Containment Breach

        DONT BLINK

Lets pretend the floppy disk has a size of 1.4 MB
All the IWADs (freedm,freedoom1,freedoom2) is around 37MB.
Meaning, it would take around 27 floppy disks to carry them all!

haha I almost forgot how much a floppy holds... yea its 1.44MB

My first ever computer game was Lands of Lore in 1993, I think it was released by Virgin Games.... if Im getting all this right.... well that game was 20mb install size and I think it was 8 or 9 disks, which took like half hour to install maybe?lol Now I remember that the floppies were packed in a hard carton box and came in an actual envelope, neatly stacked in 2 rows to fit in there, along with the manual

so for freedom1.wad it should be similar... until the 2nd game comes out, which I didnt play yet freedoom2.wad -FreeDoom Phase2! which weights in at 28MB-as Im still busy with 1 But I do think it's time to move on to the CD now too many floppy disks to carry around

There was one game in the 90s which had the most floppies, I'm really trying to remember what it was...... interesting trivia here? It was something like 14, 17 or maybe 22 disks...... and then a bit later it came out on CD... trying to remember here.... it was even mentioned in a gaming magazine... maybe it was Decent 1 or the earliest version of Normality (by Interplay) that shipped ... not sure, I think that one was 30MB maybe or 14 haha... or StoneKeep by Interplay, something like that... can barely remember

The compression method was lzh or something?lol or the installer unpacked the game files That was the highest compression method I think, until the games went to CD.

I really would like something similar to this FreeDoom thing, I already played Brutal Doom starter pack which had a whooping 32 levels maybe- not sure. I was seeking other wads to play when I came across the FreeDoom.

I will be really jumping for joy if you guys make a FreeQuake with all new content like this one was.

I'm not sure if you're doing this already but maybe you can reward yourselves (the dev team) by trying to monetize the thing. Like either make a facebook page or a fundstarter... the quality of the game was really good and I immensely enjoyed playing through it, the FreeDoom that is

Actually that quality is not that good. Maybe its time to give its maps a facelift.

I have a plan that I would like to contribute to Freedoom. Something that will truely make Freedoom more unique and independant. Not just a replacement IWAD or "the Free Doom".

But first I'm holding a small test among mappers, to see whether it would work.

If it does, I'll try to initiate Part 2 of my plan.

Freequake? There's Open Quartz and Open Quartz Plus. Although its unfinished. And it seems no one wishes to continue it.

Yea, I agree, the quality of the maps are not that great in the later parts of the game. I was overly enthusiastic at first haha, but for good reason, the beginning maps were really great.

I didn't really like the later maps because some where too big or too confusing and also umm.... and sometimes a swarm of monsters would just come out of nowhere and charge/ attack you and you suddenly die with like a wtff?? expression on your face lol I'm being forced to save too frequently because of this, something which was not that fun either.

Also I got a complaint about that white marshmallow-ghost-monster-thingy lol haha I mean both him and his tan colored variant shoot those green goo/ plasma projectiles way too fast which makes it hard to dodge in the small spaces of the map they're being placed at

In any case, overall its not bad, but yea it got some problems I would say... which become evident as one plays through the whole thing. But nonetheless very enjoyable for a fan project and almost forgettable that you are playing a free game as it borders on commercial quality

As I said, I am still playing this game lol since my first post on here and I'm currently at the Phase 2 wad, later maps, map 26 or something? so I guess I'm nearing the end. Not bad, I did appreciate this game

So, I think for the future, to recap here... eh.. maps should be small(er) maybe- to medium size, kinda less confusing, less monsters, a bit slower projectiles. I'm not saying to noobify the thing but maybe make the few monsters tougher - oh wait, they are already kinda tough on 'medium' difficulty already lol. Or maybe I became more of a newb truth is I haven't played many FPSs lately so maybe I'm forgetting everything (how tough it's supposed to be?lol) But in any case, I did love the graphics and the weapon renderings and their effects, very cool

I'm really wishing for the FreeQuake, what can be done to motivate the team? I think the work is not bad at all but it does seem at some particular times it's lacking proper direction (points mentioned above) but there is definitely talent, passion and love in the work here - something that is definitely recognizable.

Maybe the team can be motivated, as I've mentioned earlier, try to monetize the thing or get donations? The free download alternative is great but also you can try Steam Works or Green light or Kickstarter etc.. or whatever publishing platforms are out there to help you guys out

AI has not been modified whatsoever. It's just your imagination. Also the semen monsters are going to be replaced with this:

                  (The Pestmeister

                  And this:

                  (Name is Nukeptyle->nuke+reptile)

                  And for the Revenant/Dark Soldier:

                  (Its named Octaminator)

And the Arch-Vile/Flame Bringer (looks damn cool!):

                  The Lost Soul/Deadflare:

And this might be for the Wolf SS:

                  (IDK the name)

All those pictures are WIP. The lost soul/deadflare one is the most recent work. All others have been in development for months.

Doom and Quake aren't the same. You'd need 3D modellers to make a FreeQuake.

And about the maps: yep i agree too big and confusing at times. In the future, mappers will either make it simpler or replace them with new ones. Freedoom is aiming for vanilla compatibility, so the maps need a serious tone-down in order for it to work in vanilla.

Freedoom is doesn't have much... Integrity yet.

Oh yea you're right, the marshmallow guy is supposed to be the doom2 baron, right? lol Yea he does shoot those fast projectiles at that speed lol I looked at a video on youtube lol I think I must've been away for a while from doom to forget that lol

Yea I know, FreeQuake won't be the same - no more sprites though! lol

The new monsters are way cool and make a great substitution!

Just asking. Which version of Freedoom did you download? The release version or the development version? The dev version has lots of changes for example, new logo, new maps and music, bug fixes etc.

                      Download? https://freedoom.soulsphere.org

Hopefully, the artists will finish them soon. Raymoohawk said he doing some shading work on the Pestmeister and touching up the Nukeptyle. CWolf is still working on the Deadflare every week. HorrorMovieGuy is fixing the Combat Slug sprites (if you noticed, it is horribly processed, stray pixels, strange lighting on various frames and washed-out look on frames). Here's the thread where HMG is doing it: https://www.doomworld.com/vb/freedoo...e-combat-slug/

Did you know there is Zauberer (FreeHexen) and Blasphemer (FreeHeretic) too?

No I didn't know and thank you very much How can I get into playing those please? (links, directions..etc)

Yes it does have today's date, because it was made today. Thats the development build. With each change, special software automatically creates the IWADs containing the changes. So no need to wait for the next big update.

Zauberer is currently a PWAD, and a very very small one too. Im working to make a small system with Deutex that can make it into an IWAD. Not recommended for trying right now.

Oddly, I can't find the link for Blasphemer. They probably took it down for development purposes. But all the resources are available at GitHub. So is Zauberer.

Ahh... very interesting, self update system

Now, I just finished playing this Freedoom Phase 1 and 2, what is exactly different with what you showed me to download? Is it just those new monsters plugged in? or any new levels maybe? Having just finished the game, is it worth replaying, I mean for what content..?

OK... do you know the links then for that other game stuff? I can google search but I don't want to make the same mistakes maybe and find something out dated

                              And maps C3M3-M5?

                              A square room?

What's different in the dev version? Only one way to find out!
