2 California men fall off edge of ocean bluff while playing 'Pokemon Go' - LA Times

people falling off cliffs, getting stabbed, people are ending up dead... and they told us quake was to violent. one thing about the new revolution in gaming and computing. the real world is gonna get smaller. hafe the population is stuck in there phone now. add in the new vr crazy the real world is going to become more and more isolated. and with AR it looks as if its gonna kill some of the dumb ones off quick. so hears to the new wave of technology and to the evolution of mankind.

Yeah...just maybe. lol. I saw a picture of an interstate sign that said "There are no Pokemon on this interstate. Drive responsibly." It made me chuckle.

Gypsy i was a guy on craigslist running an add to drive you and your friends around for $15 an hr to look for pokiemon... this would be a grate game idea. set up a safari that people will pay for to go get fake things. and charge places like starbucks and other stores to have the fake things to be found at there location to increase foot traffic.

You don't even have to get starbucks or any other place to "have fake things to be found". All tours stop somewhere. You could have starbucks pay you to simply be one of the places you bring your tour.

...and I agree - you have a great idea.

When I worked at Tracey's we had a deal with a bike tour. The bike tour already had the meal included in the price. We then gave the tour guide some percentage off of our price to bring his tour to Tracey's to eat. Tracey's had nothing to do with the bike tour other than where it came to eat.

I would opine that you would have a better chance with local small business getting on board with you than you would with Starbucks, though. That's better anyway. Fuck starbucks and walmart. Jim's Chicken Pit (or whatever) could probably benefit greater from your business.

I don't like the idea of 'killing off the stupids' as a form of human evolution because it's unfair; those with more money, with more social standing, are more likely not to be turned away from an ER for your race or gender or whatever, or god forbid *gasps* you're a famous celebrity... they all have an unfair advantage in that they recieve better medical treatment and just generally have more 'safety nets'. Sure you're helping humanity buy killing off the stupids, but even that in and of itself is still affected by the already present unfairnesses in humanity. How is killing off stupid people going to bridge the gap between the rich and poor, or the double standard of treatment between the 'physically injured' and the 'mentalliy ill'?
Besides, think about taxes. A lot of the taxes you're paying probably go to keep the dumb shits who fall of the edges of parking garages chasing after pidgeys or jump into a lake at the sight of a polywhirl when all they have so far is 'grass type' and they haven't caught any water types yet... may not just flat-out die, they could be in a coma or something, or have to undergo life-saving surgery, or receive 'grief counseling' for having had to lose limbs, amputated so the rest of the body would survive... or, hell, even if they DO die, someone has to cover funeral costs and other 'final expenses', don't they? Is all this 'artificial selection' really worth the headache over where your taxes are going?

And what of little kids whose parents were less watchful, who start playing the game on their phone, who may be freakin' young, I mean like younger than 10, and not know any better what the fuck do to in a less familiar area or the proper way to cross a street in the absence of convenient crosswalks?
Is it their fault that pokémon is so popular?

Is it even deserving of death, just to be 'stupid', in the first place?
I started playing pokémon go because a friend recommended it to me, and I feel stupid because I keep running down to 0 pokeballs because the fucking pokéstops give like 2 to 3 balls a spin and that's like not even enough for one attempt most of the time when you're over level 5, and even on a college campus, where they're at their densest, I still have to walk 1 or 2 km on average for every 5 to 10 pokéballs, to the point that I have to pass up more 'pokemon encounters' than I take, just to 'stock up', let alone 'be stockpiling'... does that 'stupidity' make me deserving of death?

Pokemon is stupid. My grandpa didn't trudge miserably through mud and dead bodies killing japs in Okinawa so that his great grandkids could get killed playing dumb Japanese cartoon video games. 'Murica, god dammit.

So, are we blaming Pokémon, or are we blaming human stupidity, here?
Sure it sucks that kids are unnecessarily dying because of this game, but I'm still not finding a consensus as to which particular aspect is the one in the wrong...

You gotta love that thread title! A game can't be held responsible for the stupidity of its users. This is the same shit all over again that happened with Black Sabbath records back in the day or with Nirvana after Columbine.

As for little kids who don't know better, isn't it the parents' job to watch them?

i dont think the game is to blame. its technology if it is good or bad depends on the user. i don't recall nirvana taking the blame for columbine. i recall Marlin Manson getting a lot of the blame. but in the end the one at fault was the kid who pulled the trigger. but cause and effect, maybe some of the school kids should not have been such dicks.

judas priest took a lot of heat when some kid killed him self with this song on repeat. they were taken to court and the line that won the trial was "if we told your kid to mow the lawn would they do it?" or something like that.

I remember some of the other shit they blamed for Columbine, I think the main ones were Doom, Mortal Kombat, Marilyn Manson, NIN (specifically the Downward Spiral), and Natural Born Killers. In reality the only thing we can truly blame is the man pulling the trigger and the events that led him there. Situations like these are evidence that we're obsessive about finding a scapegoat rather than having the perpetrator and/or victim accept responsibility for their actions.
