  • Worldcraft 3.3 Setup

    Hi Guys

Im new here on the forum, my goal is to learn quake mapping and im already struggling ^^

Anyways ive searched for a good editor and found out about worldcraft. I installed it and used the quake setup to make it quake compatible. Now im at the point where im configuring the editor with the file/exe paths. Here i have a Problem and that is that my PAK0.PAK and PAK01.PAK dont show any texture folder when extracting... its really strange i cant find the texture folder. I also got the 2 mission packs and neither in their PAKs i can find any textures.

LOL im not shure what to do, the Worldcraft Introduction Tutorial says something about "MakeTex" but thats not avaiable in 3.3 somehow. I couldnt figure it out.

    Im thankful for all ideas

    cheers

I'm not familiar with WorldCraft, but I use TrenchBroom. Its a breeze to set up and pretty straight forward to use.

I'm not a pro mapper by any means, but I would be happy to answer any questions you have that I am able to

For adding textures (a .wad file) to TrenchBroom, you need to point TrenchBroom to your wad. I would recommend extracting the wad you want from the PAK file, using a program such as pakscape (PakScape).

If you have any questions about TrenchBroom or mapping, post them here or PM me.

    Also, welcome to quakeone.com!

      Worldcraft is old.

Jackhammer is almost exactly like Worldcraft and is regularly updated. They had to rename Jackhammer to J.A.C.K.

there's others too, obviously, but you shouldn't use them unless you know the copyright that applies to them, eg: don't use the quake2/hexen2/etc ones.

          Hey Guys

          Thanks for your comments.

So im gonna try Jackhammer instead of Worldcraft, as suggested.
I figured out how to implement all the stuff and it works now , i was able to run a test map.

Now id like to start out with mapping. Which Tutorials should i follow? The one for Worldcraft, since Jack and Worldcraft are similar?
I found this one here http://www.quake-1.com/wc16a-tutorial/
Or have you guys got some other stuff?

          Thanks for your help

I would suggest learning as you go. Watching tutorials is all well and good but you can't take all the info you need at one time. Its best to learn it through repetition if you ask me.

The way I would go about it is to watch a tutorial on something only if you get hung up on it and can't figure it out yourself. You will have to do that more often when you start out, but once you get into the groove its not so bad.

I like to use this site (The Forge - Standard entities) as a quick reference for entities.

In my experience, if you have an issue that you can't find the answer to online, make a post about it here, and somebody will most likely have an answer. Feel free to PM me to my email inbox, if you want. I check it more than I do this site.

            Happy mapping!

Off hand I can think of a few places to start.

                https://quakewiki.org/wiki/Getting_Started_Mapping
                https://quakewiki.org/wiki/Mapping_tutorials

Than there are more editor specific tutorial, but a lot of info regarding mapping can be used in any editor.

                Rocketland Map Tutorial
                QOOLE tutorial
