Game preview: Quake Champions sees the return of old school FPS | Metro News

Uhggg! Quake is Quake and my past or future memories of playing it single player, co-op or ctf doesn't make me want or think Quake 3 ever damn it!

"So what Champions is – and it’s a tight focus – is it takes that visual style and the Elder Gods and Lovecraft, Cthulhu, and Shub-Niggurath… that look and feel and grittiness, and it incorporates that in a Quake III/Quake Live style of strafe-jumping, rocket-jumping, air control. So it’s very important for us to be true to that feel, and then it adds the champions, with their abilities, as an evolution of our genre. It adds a layer that makes it a little more advanced, gives more stuff for people to do; it modernises it to some degree.

I never liked Quake III Arena. To me, adding Q3A to anything is just making it worse. So yeah, my position hasn't changed.

But hey, my taste in most things goes usually against the flow of normal people, so maybe this might not mean anything .

Well they should add a single-player campaign for that and it should be great. You know how in Quake you play single-player and if you're itching for some online action you go into the menu, select multi-player and search online servers or something
The gemstone of gaming is Quake, so load it up and play some

I'll end up getting it whenever they bother releasing it. I'm not too sure if I'm feeling a pre-order on this title, I'm already occupied with Doom occasionally.

Sure, Doom is nitty gritty demonic-space-horror; QuakeChamp can be medieval/fantasy/rustic/post-modern-clanring

I dont see Doom being this big multiplayer experience.

I dont see QuakeChamps being a big single player campaign.
yet both will use the same engine.

So we get two products both limited yet the same. ID is doubling their money for a split game single engine.

That's fine. AS LONG AS THEY LET US MOD IT!

Never gonna happen. Maybe we'll get a low powered noob map maker. Like SnapMap.

QuakeSandbox IS a community made genre, yes. But I would hope for new sand.

Yeah you can mod it with Crapmap(TM)! Don't expect much else since it's a dumbed down and capped console world we live in! I know they say QuakeCHUMPS is PC only but that tune will change in the name of the all mighty dollar.

...am I a heretic (hah!) for saying I'm kind of excited for this?

I mean, in the sense that it'll bring Quake back. A return to weapon pickups, lovecraft atmosphere, and Tim Willits even says "IT'S NOT A MOBA", so that's good. I don't know what this whole specific hero type thing is, and if it's Overwatch then I'll be pissed. But, I liked QIII and I hope that this at least brings us closer to QV.

This could be the return of definitive multiplayer, in which case I'm all over it.

                          Single player, I doubt.

But I've changed my tune a bit, I'm not going to knock it till it comes out. We all have to remember, we are severely biased to quake one. There's a reason we're still playing it 20 years later.

I thought it was because we're all sad and lonely on the inside with utter disdain for the rest of the planet and Quake was the only way we could reach catharsis without violence, right?

...yeah, we were all thinking that, but you just HAD to say it, didn't you?
