nope you cant, since both rain and auto-adjusted torches are QC-modifications.

so its not possible to have them while playing online unless the server is running the QC-modification required for those effects

    .

better even, the torches are a darkplaces-specific QC-modification even.
so both the server and all players connecting would have to be using the darkplaces client
    .
are you curious about what all there is out there in terms of HD content for quake?
    > then make sure to check out my 'definitive' HD replacement content thread! <
everything that is out there for quake and both mission-packs, compiled into one massive thread

      Hello Gwyn,

      Talisa is not correct.
You can do anything you want client side.
The picture you linked is a ssqc mod, but that doesnt mean that it can only be done server sided.

Already existing examples that clients do not follow ssqc mods:
      - Darkplaces lightning gun beam effect
      - Many engines use custom particles which differ from the mod
      - Several engines do not follow the origin of the lightning gun beam declared in the mod
      - The HUD

So, in other words, you could for example set in the client that whenever you *should* see a torch, you will see a shambler at that position. *crazy idea*

When you played Darkplaces once you have seen that it uses custom effects for the standard TE_ and TR_. You will not find the syntax or the textures in the download package. It is included/compiled in the engines .exe. You can overwrite it via an external effectinfo.txt and particlefont.tga though.

So, if you want you can do anything clientside.
That is the trick, as only you will see the *different* visual. All other connected clients will see the servers *correct* visual (if they do not change it). That is why Darkplaces users see that special lightning gun beam and particles, while all other connected players will still see the regular condition.
That way very evil cheat hacks could be introduced. Just saying.

      Best wishes,
      Seven
