  • Connection successful but nothing?

I'm trying to play Quake online, I have the full version of the game. I enter in a server, then it go's to the console and says...

    Trying...
    Connection Successful.

But after that it stays there and does nothing. It doesn't enter the server. Could it be that I must download the maps?

Try typing in the console after it says connection successful

    "say hi"

    w/o quotes.

    works for me usually

I tried that, it gives me a host error then loses connection.

Some thing like cl_readerror: connection lost.

Try using a newer engine like Proquake 3.99

          Hi,

I'm having the same proble, but reversed.

I'm trying to host a server to play with a couple of friends and when they connect they get a "connected to ProQuake server" but the level won't appear.
We're all using ProQuake v3.99, and it's the inital map.
I've tried connecting to another machine and it works, but for some reason mino won't host it.

The other day I was messing with a router to get a 2nd machine online and since then it hasn't worked. But the router is no longer connected.
Is there anything that might have gotten chhange in Quake, or the win registry, or is my provider blocking something?

Please help I've been going nuts with this issue, like I said, the cable modem is straight to the computer and the 26000 port is open just like it was before. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything and same result.

          Thanks!

Sorry guys, I have been gone for some time.

I think the root of this problem is either with the maps or servers. I will see if ProQuake will fix the problem then I'll get back.

EDIT: Woah, didn't see you Fedex. You might have an issue with the router or your firewall. Make sure it is enabled in the exceptions. And ProQuake is not recognizing gfx.wad

Sounds like you only have port 26000 forwarded. Quake uses more than just port 26000, you should forward all UDP ports in the router, not just port 26000.
