  • Maps won't work

I just started this whole Quake thing and I'm using ProQuake on my Windows XP.

I just downloaded a map, and I have the files, but where do I put them and how do I play them? I can't seem to get them to run, and I made a maps folder, sice I couldn't find one. Anyone know what to do?

EDIT: I put the Maps file in my ID1 folder, now every time i enter "map trincasp2" it closes the game and has some weird error message. Will this happen with every map I download, or is there a way to fix it?

Hi. Please tell us what the error message actually says.

Maps are files with .bsp at the end. Make a sub-folder called "maps" in your id1 folder. Then put the .bsp file you downloaded into the "maps" folder, so you have "id1\maps\blah.bsp". You can then usually bring down the console and type "map mapname" (without the .bsp ending) to play the map.

The directory structure of Quake is this:

    C:\Quake
    C:\Quake\winquake.exe (or a custom engine)
    C:\Quake\id1
    C:\Quake\id1\maps
    C:\Quake\id1\maps\aerowalk.bsp (or some other maps)

The .pak files should also be in "id1".

Under Linux, you have the same directory structure, just / instead of \ and no C:.

There is most certainly a way to fix your problem
