  • Enclave

Game is currently free with signups on a German gaming site. Refer to the below post:
    http://quakeone.com/forums/quake-tal...tml#post141949

I'd be surprised if this game hasn't come up before (apart from one recent post!), but are there more fans of the Enclave here? I'm also curious if there are others who are interested in developing custom content for it.

It was originally released on the Xbox in 2002 and was then brought over to the PC with an updated port in 2003. The gameplay centers around third person melee/ranged combat with a fantasy theme, and rewards the player for exploration in beautiful atmosphere packed levels. I've always been very impressed with the engine which supports effects such as physics simulations and detailed object animation, and the developers even released an Editor/GDK for it years back. (The engine actually bears similarities to Quake3, in fact, it began as a Quake3 deathmatch styled title)

It's still available for PC through a few digital distribution platforms, and I've since released additional documentation for the tools as well as example levels which include many geometry and effects samples recreated from the main game. This is available along with the rest of the files on the Enclave MOD DB downloads page.

There is also a forum to discuss the game, engine, and editing tools here:

    Hello Amran,

    Yes, I agree with you.
And I also can see its parallels to Hexen2 and your passion for both games
    They share some identical ideas.

When you speak about "custom content", are there already available replacement contents for it ? Or even advanced engines (or does the original allows it) ? Original Heretic2 engine unfortunately doesnt allow it (except the player model/skin).

Thank you for bringing this jewel back to some peoples minds.
It is always good to speak about these great games.

By the way, all your download links to http://dronedev.net/mapconv/ are dead. Are you still working on Hexen2 maps/stuff ?

    Best wishes,
    Seven

As far as I'm aware no user made content was ever released for the game despite support from the developers in earlier years. (A shame, as the engine and tools are really quite good) The editor and GDK were at first released in 2004 and support the bulk of standard modding capabilities (levels, textures, models, particles, animations, etc) while many other elements are modifiable through plain text files. (items, characters, behaviors, campaigns, etc)

I've uploaded the base tools and documentation that Starbreeze had released, as well as the additional documentation and example levels I had created here. (Note that you'll want to use Ogier versions 101 and 102 for Enclave editing)

The MapConv page and downloads appear to still be working. Maybe the site was having some downtime? Although I've been taking a break from Hexen II to work on other projects, I still very much hope to develop and release more content for it in the future. Even more, I'd really love to see others utilize those tools and create new levels for the game!

An update for anyone who hasn't snapped up this game yet, they are now giving away free Steam copies of it!

The German gaming site DLH is giving away Steam keys for Enclave with each new account created. (500,000 in total) The site's a bit slow right now, but I got a key shortly after signing up.

            Hello,

Enclave is a really gem which is a mix of Heretic 2, Hexen 2, Rune, Thief as well as some Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
A great mix for a good game.

Some of its map architecture reminds me of Tronyn´s and Sock´s Quake maps.

            Really nice screenshots:

If you didnt play it yet, be sure to do so

Ahh, I remember reading about his game back when it came out. Was looking for it for a long time, but when finally had a chance to play it, I quit rather quickly. I would give it a second chance, but from what I remember, it became rather boring after some time. I guess I had higher hopes for it, expecting another Hexen or some fantasy Unreal singleplayer, but it ended up like Painkiller/Necrovision games.

But my memories may deceive me
