I'm just curious, but looking through the pictures does anyone know if the "Spike" pictured is the same chap that produced the FTE and Quakespasm engines amongst many other Quake contributions?
Kind regards

Quadz had a whole bunch of pics from QCon that year posted to his webspace that I managed to discover again and shared the link in that thread on Tastyspleen. I'll post it here too. That picture you mention is in there.

Not sure if that link will work in the future. Currently, Tastyspleen will run as-is at until the end of August. But after that, there will likely be some changes in hosting. I think they've managed to back everything up and get it ready to go wherever it might end up. If they haven't already gained access to everything they need to in order to admin the forums and servers, they will before too much longer. So it appears that there are plenty of people in the community willing to do everything it takes to keep Tastyspleen going.
Still,... just not gonna be the same old Tastyspleen without Quadz.

Damn, he did a great job hosting the 2008 Quake Expo too. The infamous picture of him passed out tired is broken on the Quaddicted web archive, RIP. I never got to know him personally, but tastyspleen hosts many of the best Quakeworld/Quake 2 servers.

Not that it helps, but my condolencies and sympathies go to his family. I wasn't aware of Quadz but after reading through the thread at tastysplean it sounds like quite a number of people appreciated him and his efforts.
Kind regards
Monty

Sorry for your loss. We lost l33t in 2012 and that's the last known death I think we've had in the Quake 1 community. A lot of prolific people around here have disappeared over the years and I can't help but wonder if they passed too.

Some sad news for the Quake2 community
Not sure where to post this exactly. I'm mainly a Quake2 player, and some folks here probably play Quake2 as well occasionally. If you have, chances are you did it on a Tastyspleen.net server.
Some very sad news for the Quake community. Quadz, the owner, operator, and the great and powerful Oz behind the curtain at Tastyspleen.net, has apparently passed away. I was not incredibly close to him, but others that were really close to him broke the news to everyone yesterday on the Tastyspleen forums.

This is a HUGE loss for the Quake community. The man has virtually single-handedly kept Quake2 alive and thriving all these years, especially in North America. If you are inclined, you can swing by Tastyspleen.net and express your condolences. I'm sure his family will read it at some point.Last edited by Focalor; 07-14-2021, 11:02 AM.Tags: None
