Today is quite a special day as it marks Quake's 20th birthday! That's right, 20 years ago today, Quake was released to rabid pc gamers (most of us included) and opened the world to smooth deathmatch and a stylish single player campaign the world had never seen before. I'm sure that I'm not alone here in saying, thank you Id Software for creating one of the best games ever released!
As for festivities, Quakers around are doing some special things for Quakes 20th anniversary. Below is a list of things to check out, please let me know if I missed any:
- Machine Games has gone out of their way to create an entirely new episode for Quake! It's called "Dimension of the Past" and you can download it here.
- John Romero has posted a blog about Quake, featuring the first screenshots from Quake!
- After 4 years of work, forum User Moon[Drunk] has finished up the QRP (Quake Revitalization Project) for Mission Pack 2!
- PC Gamer is running a Quake DM Server for the week. They also posted a very informative article about Quake called "The legacy of Quake, 20 years later."
- You might like cake for a birthday, but what about cookies? Forum member Sock has fun little mod for you to play called Cookie Quake, where items in Quake have been turned into, you guessed it, cookies! Download it here.
- Forum member Blood Vengeance has continued his Reforging Project and released Soul of Evil Reforged.
- Forum member R00k has created a Happy Birthday thread for today.
- Forum member DASl-l has created a 4 part video series on Quake for the 20th Anniversary.
- Forum member Sgt-PieFace has created a comparison video, showing quake in 1996 and Quake in 2016.
- Yours truly has put together an episode of The Quake Grave wishing Quake a very happy birthday.
