    OMS2: Conflagrant Rodent
    Func_Msgboard Thread

A large single player release by ORL that appears to feature textures and architecture reminiscent of his Blaze DM map. OMS2 is too large for standard Quake and requires FitzQuake 0.85, DirectQ, DarkPlaces or Enhanced GLQuake to play it.

    Recent Stuffs

Stolen does an axe only speed run for E1M1 (vid). Why hasn't Quake been "axe-only"-ed? Phenom has made detailed instructions on how to compile Qrack 1.60 on Linux and a YouTube video showing how. A 64-bit patch is also in the thread.

    Firefox Plug-In FTEQW

There is a version of FTEQW that can be installed as a browser plug-in for Firefox, Chrome, Safari called "npfte" (np = Netscape plug-in). Lacking a current working URL for this; if I find one will update this.

Nice. No wonder Rocketguy went with ORL!

Yes ORL produces some great stuf, but we still appreciate you Zop Quake still needs as many willing and knowledgable volunteers as we can get. I for one haven't forgotten the stirling work you did upgrading Deathmatch plus mod to Version 2! (adding Map selection, RQ Hook, Eyecam mode, etc, etc)

The level of detail in this map is A++++++.

It is quite an unusual map in that regard. I wish there were a lot more like it. I don't think there is any map with that level of detail except maybe one of the Insomnia maps, but this one is far larger.

I notice that your EngineX and Proquake doesn't feature on that list of capable engines. Shame really, I'm quite getting in to EngineX

I don't doubt that they will support large maps some day, but coding support for large maps is most definitely non-trivial (it's actually high entity counts that cause much more trouble than increased map sizes, as they need a new protocol). If I know Baker half as well as I think I do, this is something he intends doing but wants to do it right (and carefully).

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback It was definitely a fun and rewarding, but also very tedious and sometimes frustrating experience building this map. But seeing it finally finished with so many people enjoying makes it all worth it.

I've never doubted Baker's committment and I'm sure we'll see more in due course. Normally it's not worth me going through the rigmarole of setting up another engine such as DP just for a map as my free time is very limited and I really just play to relax and have fun. However, if it's an ORL map then it's definitely worth me making one last attempt to get DirectQ working

BTW, @ ORL: thanks for the game between you, me and Stalker last night. That's the first game I have enjoyed fully in probably a year or more. Good clean sporting fun. And keep up the good work with the maps. It really *IS* appreciated.

                Warmest regards

                Monty
