Quake will not and did not last forever. The reality is that is a 16-year old game. Time and obsoleteness had to kick in. And, in fact, it did there was just a delay in acknowledging it.

The truth is, the status quo is simply unmaintainable. Thursday at 11 pm, resigned to this fact I have an announcement to make that I feel has a meaningful bearing on the future. Some of you likely will not be surprised by this announcement.

Hello Baker,

knowing you as a man with affectation for suprises.

But why making an "advance notice" to something which seems to be extremely important ?

What do you think will now happen in all our minds ?
- Will this site be closed down ?
- Will Baker leave Quake and Quake development forever ?
- Will ID1 be sold ?

All these sad questions rushes through (at least my) mind now.

I think, if you have some important message to bring, please bring it.

I am amazed we have enjoyed playing free for sooooooo long.
My thanks go out to all of you who put such time,effort and money into this community.

I understand but for myself I need to reflect. And I'd prefer not to startle anyone.

Baker I don't understand how you can startle us with the fact that this game is 16 years old & that Quake did not last forever. The only startling thing is that I bet you finally found a companion. It is our hope in the gaming community that he will comfort you as you end your tenure here. I bet you enjoy a long warm relationship & hopefully he will change his mind about how much time you have given to gaming & have some surprise return to Quake. I wish you both peace bra.
