YOu don't need directx 9.0c to run Quake. This is not battlefield 2142.
Jin, try getting newer video card drivers. Did you delete opengl32.dll? If so, reinstall and don't delete it.

Sounds like you need video card drivers & Direct X 9.0c
I had a similar problem when I didn't have these 2 things installed, except I would get a pink screen instead of a black screen

I would recommend trying to get updated drivers;OpenGL drivers for the card (if that is still possible) or try reinstalling the CD for the card. The whole Voodoo series was able to run GLQuake.
The only alternative I can think of is getting a new video card. Unfortunately, there are not many options available if it will not get beyond a black screen (I had that on a computer once -- I had to get a different video card to run it).

Black screen with GLQuake clients
Hi. After years of playing other Quake's I want to start some oldschool fragging
But I need some help! I tried many modern clients like FuhQuake, EzQuake, Qrack, but none is full working (even old GLQuake by IDsoft)
When I run it I always got black screen, but other seems to be OK. I hear sound and demo is playing... . I can play with only software clients & recent D3DProQuake 3.70 (but with graphics glitches
). My system is P3 900mhz, 256RAM, Voodoo3 16MB, Windows XP SP1.
