Quake make over?

I'm trying to make Quake look a little better and wanted to try out some new textures and skins.

I tried the file here:

I like the textures ok. Something doesn't quite feel right about them, but they do look really good.

But I really don't like the weapon models.

Are there any hi res skins for the original models of the weapons and mosters? Maybe some other textures to try out?

It says there were new model skins, but they look the same to me.

Also, I am trying to do this in DirectQ. My computer won't handle better textures, etc with darkplaces. I also don't want to download a gig worth of textures.

Also wanted to know if there is an updated version of this file around somewhere or how would I compress it like this?
