  • Spinning out of control

Hi guys, 1st post for me. I need your help.
I've enjoyed darkplaces for a year or so on my Windows 7 PC.
I've upgraded my system to Windows 8 (separate hard drive with caddy, so still have the Windows 7 set up as well) and here is my issue:

The game launches fine. The intro demo plays fine too.

But as soon as I launch a save or try to start a new game, after the loading I get my shotgun looking at the sky spinning on itself like crazy out of control.

I can shoot alright, but I simply cannot stop the spinning, walk or do anything.

i've tried all compatibility modes in windows but no luck.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks

What mouse do you have? Anything special? If so, maybe try some lame generic mouse and see if it clears up.

different clients have methods of changing how the mouse is access'd.

like directinput , would need to to know what client your using.

This used to happen to me if i was using a windowed mode and my mouse was out of focus. Could be an old Quake client...

Well, this is driving me nuts.
I've reset all settings, tried 2 different types of keybard and mouse combination and still no luck.
I'm running darkplaces-quake 6.0 (at least that's what's showing in the console view).
I've reopened the exact same folder and application on Windows 7 and it all works fine. Must be something in Windows 8.
Is there something like netFramework or an older version of directX that maybe I need to install that would affect darkplaces?

yeah win 8 may have some q1 problems. i have a friend who could run a install of quake on win 7 but when he upgraded it didn't work anymore. im still trying to figure out why.

Well, in the meantime I've downloaded different versions of Darkplaces and they all behave the same, loading completes, shotgun moves on its own to top left, then spinning on itself.

I've switched back to the W7 configuration to play quake. Seems crazy though.
I bet it's something small in the end.

Ho well, if someone finds out anything to help, I'll be stalking the forums.

I encountered this problem as well. I was tweaking settings to reduce lag (still have it in some areas of maps) and I found that if your anti aliasing is on max, it causes this. Not sure if it will fix your game, but I'd give it a try.
