    Mr. Burns,

The link you gave to the ffany.zip file is not valid. I chopped off the rest though and saw the Euroquake page which I recognize and the maps link there has a few examples of maps that the NewDMNY server was using and were not in the provided zip file.

Is there a complete zip file so I can download all of those maps and not one at a time?

I experienced the same thing as you with ProQuake. It works and uses web-download which is interesting and different. It actually says it gets it from quake-1.com I believe and I can't even get to a web address there.

I don't use ProQuake because I tried it and the video quality looks very bad. For some reason the brightness is all messed up. There is a momentary flash every one and a while and the screen goes darker like normal and I can see what it is supposed to look like.

I talked to the FTE creator and told him about the web-download and ProQuake. He seemed to be against the idea of web-download as an approach due to errors it could cause like downloading the wrong map or bringing down web servers I think he said. However, I noticed that web download is extremely fast! Also, I tried Mark V engine and it also has web-download and it works even faster than ProQuake. Mark V engine though is lacking in video features though like anti-aliasing. There is no v-sync option, but maybe it is already enabled which is good because I have to have v-sync. DarkPlaces downloads the map from the server, which works. Maybe I'll take another look at Mark V. The Mark V game browser only lists very few game servers too, which could be a problem. Also, I found out there is a cool program called QTracker where I can view games in a separate program. This allows a lot of flexibility and could be a better approach. It is basically like the old QuakeSpy / GameSpy. I still remember using QuakeSpy and liked that!

On another note I've been tempted to find out how I can get a server setup in Washington DC. I connected to the New York server and the ping is pretty good, but I think it wold be nice to have one in DC too.

My humble suggestion would be that you download the FFA map pack first (see http://bigfoot.servequake.com/maps/ffany.zip) and let us know which maps you believe are still missing.

Incidentally ProQuake and Mark V also work, but those clients do not display the video properly on my computer and I do not like them.
I'm not aware of any reason why Quakespasm would unable to connect to a Netquake server but if your other NetQuake clients connect ok then this suggests a possible config problem with your QuakeSpasm engine.

It seems you have a number of issues here.
    1. You want to try connecting to Netquake servers using QuakeWorld engines
    2. You want your engine to autodownload maps

    Is this correct?

With regard to the first question - In order for you to connect to a NetQuake Server with a QuakeWorld engine you need to be sure that a) the Quakeworld engine has this capability and b) that you are providing the engine with the right information to enable it to connect. For example, the author of the FTE quakeworld engine has confirmed on this forum that FTE CAN connect to Netquake servers but you must enter a slightly different command to the usual one in order for it to connect. If memory serves (and it probably doesn't) FTE uses something like nconnect ffany.servequake.com:26000 . I've not tested this but if you use the normal connect command in your Quakeworld client I believe it will assume you are trying to connect to a Quakeworld server and fail as the protocols are different. @Spike please jump in here if any of the above is incorrect.

With regard to your second question most modern netquake engines can auto download maps when you join a server and don't initially have that map. Personally I tend to use Proquake and the autodownload has worked flawlessly for years on dozens of custom maps. As I recall, all that is required it to add a couple of values to your config.cfg file and Proquake just handles it seemlessly. Try the following:

    Code:
    cl_web_download "1"
    cl_web_download_url "damage.servequake.com/"
I don't use Darkplaces a lot for on line play so although I know it can also auto download maps I'm not entirely sure of how this is set up.

Try adding the above map pack and please come back to us.

Thanks. Oh ok, so not all maps may be available.. well, this is a start anyway

Yea, I'm sorry, I haven't played that often and so far in between, that I forgot a few stuff hehe. I think I have most of the maps, but wasn't sure if I had the complete set, from a-z lol

Woah hold on there a second my friend. The repos I've linked you to should contain all of the maps available on the New York and Damage servers. I've provided that on the basis that it's a fairly large and convenient repo of maps and if you are playing the NewDM mod and vote for a map you haven't already got then you can probably find it there. Unfortunately the NewDM Mod has a limited number of maps, ID and Custom, which I believe (but could be wrong) are hardcoded in to the mod. I'm not sure that even though all the FFA maps are available on the server and available for mods on other ports of the same server, they may not all be useable by the NewDM mod. Only Monster or CS could really answer that as they wrote that mod.
However, if we speak really nicely to Polarite or Peg they might be able to look whether the same server magic that is available on the FFA servers, which includes numerous additional player options such as hundreds of voteable maps , could be applied to the NewDM port (assuming NewDM can support it)

The screenshot of the menu should help you...

By default the bots play at skill level 1 but you can easily check by typing botskill and pressing return in game on the server. if you want to change the skill level then remove all the bots, change the skill level (eg type skill3) and add them back in (addbot).

As I recall there is a map pack available here at Quakeone.com. While you are there it would probably be a good idea to gran the RQuake Coop maps as well. If for some reason neither of these are available to you please let me know and I can provide you with an alternate link.
Personally, I tend to configure my Proquake to automatically download any missing maps as it allows you to keep up to date with any new maps that come along with only a minimum of effort (2 lines in your config) but I believe not all clients do this.

    NewDM added to NYC

Bored? Fancy a game of Quake but can't find a server with any players on? Well fear not and look no further, help from your friendly neighborhood New York server team is at hand
The admin team at NYC has now provided an additional port at newdmny.servequake.com:26010 with the NewDM mod from CS and Monster loaded so you can play your favourite Quake and even some custom maps against bots with adjustable skill levels to test your mettel. The Bots can be individually voted on (type addbot in console) or off (type removebot in console) to suit your preference and their skill can be adjusted using botskill n

Just for good measure the european players can also enjoy a big helping of the same NewDM goodness over at newdm.servequake.com:26010

Other than a few custom maps, which can be downloaded from either our repository in the USA (Index of /maps) or europe (Index of /maps), there should be no additional files needed so what are you waiting for? Go kick some Bot

    (@Polarite: All Hail )

    Have fun

Thanks Gem, that's good to hear. Polarite is the server owner and the brains behind them, I just add tweaks for player requests, help run the tournaments and help out where I can

I added wworld in response to a player request and it can be quite a fun map with the right people. If I remember rightly the FFANY server has some extra "magic" added by Peg and Pol to allow you to view and select a wide range of maps (try say !maps at the console). Also bear in mind that if you can catch an Admin on (e.g. =Peg=, Pol or myself) we can often change the server to load maps that may not be in the normal rotation. For example it was a lot of fun to play Basewalk and Aerowalk maps on the RuneQuakePlus port on the server (newyork.servequake.com:26010) last night using the same method.

    Have fun

    Runequake Plus server updated.

My thanks to Polarite [all hail ] for fixing my access to the NYC server, I'm happy to report that, with Zop's invaluable help, the RuneQuake plus port (newyork.servequake.com:26010) has received the following long overdue updates:
    1. It now has the Free Hook enabled so you can whizz around the map like a crazy person, and
    2. You can drop runes instantly rather than have to wait.

    So have fun ppl.

    Kind regards

Yes it was good to see you there. For some reason my remote access has stopped working this week, I hope I haven't upset Polarite , but as soon I can log in again I will try and alter the config to enable things RuneQuakers are comfortable with such as Hook.

Hope to see you there soon

    Kind regards
