I tried QuakeSpasm first no go... then switched to EzQuake, viola

I know there's the whole netquake vs. quakeworld protocol, but I always forget which engines are which.

These servers people use around here are "Netquake" (normal Quake) servers. EzQuake is a "Quakeworld" engine. The two are different from each other.

For Netquake servers, try Proquake, Qrack, Darkplaces or FTE maybe.

zquake, dark places, fte can connect to both.
i really wish ezQuake would port zquakes protocol 15 compatibiltiy
oh well.
