  • Quake, Quakeworld, and TF

Hi, Iv been searching for answers for a long time before i decided to post. and heres the deal. I have a new computer and recently just installed quake form my cd. Now for days iv been trying to get quake quakeworks and team fortress. i want to play them online and i installed proquake but i cant get anything to work with gamespy. any help? im willing to delete everything and restart.
everytime i use gamespy to connect to a game it just starts up proquake and goes to single player just like if i ran the game from start menu. also if i try to connect manually with an ip that i wrote down it says
trying, still trying, still trying; host error connect failed
i have dsl and i tried disabling the firewall and stuff, dont know what to do please help

You're better off staying sane like me by ignoring FoQer now instead of paying the price of insanity like bank

          Oh god...the voices...THE VOICES!

You're best to connect from the console.

Pick a server (say fvf.servequake.com), and type Connect fvf.servequake.com, and there you go.

All you have to do is Connect (hostname)

He said that he tried to connect from the console already with an IP. I dunno if you're aware but you need a QuakeWorld client to play QuakeWorld servers. wqpro = netquake.

Make sure you are connecting to a netquake server and make sure you didnt write down a wrong IP? You are useing wq pro right?

i have installed proquake and joe quake and iv used each one of each (both the win and gl) and tried to connect to quake.ihoc.net in console all says
                    trying
                    still trying
                    still trying
                    no response
                    Host_error Cl_connect: connect failed

                    or
                    trying blah blah
                    host error connect failed

thats it, simgle player runs fine and looks really good in joe quake
also tf 2.6 wont work either but im trying to get quake working first before i work on mods

The only thing I can think of is to get rid of gamespy.

                      Check your firewalls.

If you are trying to play QuakeWorld, get EZQuake out of the clients section. It has a built-in server browser.

ProQuake and JoeQuake are Quake clients, not Quakeworld clients, and can't play on TeamFortress servers.

I read a thing on here that said something about having 2 internet connections. I kinda do. If I go into the network connections, I have 2 things one says broadband with a connection "verizon" and one below it that is Lan or high speed internet with "Local area connection" both say connected. But I have to have both on to use the internet.
Also tried using the IPCONFIG in RUN but nothing happens just a dos screen that comes up and goes away....

                          I wana play quake online
