Hey aren't you the st1x51 who developed DQuakePlus for psp? Awesome job

What exactly are you looking to do, run a quake server in a virtual environment like VMWare/VirtualBox [with ubuntu]?

Guide here: Games • Quake 1 dedicated server (how to) • Leto Kauler
Latest ProQuake Linux Server available for download here: http://quakeone.com/proquake/

I don't think you should have any issues running it on a VDS, just be sure you have your own ports open on the server for Quake and/or unfiltered network access

fteqw is available for Linux and you can run a server from it so you should be good to go if that is what you want to use.
