whats going on?

can someone tell me why i can't connect to the shmack servers? i used to be able to connect just fine.. not any more now however

Assuming you're on a Windows machine, do the following:

Start > Run

Type "cmd" in the window that opens and hit ok.

In the DOS-style prompt type

tracert quake.shmack.net

Do you get results? If so must be a network issue or something. If you don't get results looks like your ISP can't find Shmack.

Looks like you're ISP is having problems routing to Shmack.

I'd right click "my network places" on the desktop, properties, and see if you have more than one NIC installed if so disable the one that isn't being used for your net connection. (that may be the problem) though i doubt it if you connected before, but i'd still check windows is a mysterious little slut for doing things it shouldn't do, on it's own.

Just a suggestion... myself i've been pinging 170-200 ping at shmack 01 that has seriously been pissing me off for like a week now.

You might also consider fear.quakeone.com . It is admined by PITA and Dopa and in my limited experience generally attracts a nice bunch of people.

PEG has been there but it's worth a shot to see if you can connect to it? Your missing that last jump to shmack.. 69.64.35.230.. Funny thing is.. it takes me the same 12 hops as it takes you.. grrrrrr.. most of mine is trying to get out of chicago!! I'm right on top of the server for Fear and it takes me 10 hops.. Damn thing is two towns from me..

Wanted to add as it is connecting alt/tab to your console and see if your firewall has that ip blocked? And run a tracert on fear.quakeone.com?
