  • Need help starting a Qrack ctfre server

    Two questions:

1 - If I wanted to start a CTF server on the LAN using Qrack is there a certain tag I need to use? The guide at the link below uses the “-ctf” tag on the end, but I thought that was only if you had a ctf subdirectory:

    http://www.quakeone.com/index.php?in...&op=show&id=18

I guess Qrack is different than GL Quake, GL ProQuake, and GL JoeQuake. Do I need to make a ctf folder and put a cetain .pak file in it, or is it even possible to do with Qrack? I could run it from GL JoeQuake if needed, but I wanted to use the –listen tag so someone could play with the awesome CTF Retextured mod.

2 - Also, what if I wanted to make a free server like the one xctf.clan-rum.org?

If anyone has some easy to follow directions on either of these it would be much appreciated. Sorry if this is already covered in the forum somewhere, unfortunately I am a newb when it comes to finding things in forums.

If there are some directions to get either of these working could someone put a link to it on the “LAN: Playing Quake On LAN” page? http://www.quakeone.com/index.php?in...&op=show&id=18

    Thanks,

Assuming that you are going to have one of the computers on the lan be dedicated, you shouldn't use QRack as the server --- only on the computers a human will be playing on. Use WQPRO.exe as the server, the ProQuake executable. The server has nothing to do with the graphics at all, the graphics are on the client side.

    ProQuake download: click this

Your ProQuake command line will be something like this:

    c:\quake\wqpro.exe -game ctf -dedicated 16

QRack is a graphically enhanced client and you use those on the computers and connect to the ProQuake server.

    Quake on a LAN

    Does that clear this up?

I don't believe QRack can act as a dedicated server. You could try this if you aren't using a dedicated server:

    c:\quake\glqrack.exe -game ctf -listen 8

But I might add, a dedicated server (computer hosting the game that is not being used by a human) is recommended for LAN play as a rule of thumb. QRack being a GL client, cannot run in dedicated mode.

I re-read your post. I can answer it, but I'd need to locate a client-side executable. xCTF is great, but running it in listen mode is troublesome and there are more complications to hosting a CTF game than is commonly known (you have to put special entities into the maps, it involves recompiling them)

This is something we'll document and put up. I'll see if I can do this later today (but I can't guarantee this), but running CTF on a LAN is not as easy as other mods, plus the Threewave site is gone now.

        Wait

        Try this: http://www.quaketerminus.com/ctf.htm

I forgot, if you are using the Threewave maps, those have the entities precompiled into them so check out that page. It has everything you need to run a server on a LAN.

          Instructions needed

          Baker,

Thanks a ton for passing on that link! The site is cool. Nice to see a repository for some of those old mods.

I got the files from: http://www.quaketerminus.com/ctf.htm

The readme.txt in the 3wave421d.zip file says:

“Please download 4.2 for full documentation. http://www.cdrom.com/pub/quake/plane...r/3wave42.zip”.

The link doesn’t work and I can’t seem to find the original 4.2 file anywhere. Do you know anywhere else I can get the instructions to make it work?

          Thanks,
          Mattslut (-==FX==-)
