I don't think you're quite aware of this, but you're really asking everyone to have to type in a port number in addition to the server address to play, since quake just defaults to 26000. So, unfortunately, don't expect that to happen any time soon.

I'll look into it. Speed may be lacking, though. We'll see.

How many times do I have to say that's not an option? It's like your internet connection at work (unless you're a rogue network administrator). Assume I have the same options as that.

I'm dead serious. There's nothing I can do about it. I can't do anything on my end to make it work past using a proxy, which is as good as no solution at all.

Trust me. It's not a configuration problem on my end. I can connect to other ports just fine. It's my ISP blocking ports somewhere between 26000-26100, which is where almost all NetQuake servers are hosted. I don't want to proxy because I don't have the resources to set up my own, and a public proxy would probably give me unplayable latency. Servers lose nothing from using a different port.

And is it really that silly? Believe me when I say that other people are likely in similar situation.

I think you should fix the problem on your end. Maybe a proxy or something. Requiring the rest of the community to bend around your problem is kinda silly.
Are you sure its yor ISP and not a coding error?

    A plea to server hosts

    Server hosts:

Due to what's probably a fifteen year old legacy rule on my crappy ISP, I can't connect to servers at ports around 26000. Please set the port to something lower like 2600. It doesn't affect anything other than my ability to join the server.

I can confirm that it is the problem, since QuakeWorld will connect at 27500 and in NetQuake I can connect to friends at port 1414.
Working...
