Every time I type in a server it says connection accepted but it does not show anything, even if I wait a while. I dunno if there's a wait time but I really want to get started.

It might help you if you try the latest version of proquake available from this site. It has many bug fixes including in the comms area and might just help you out.
Kind regards

Both me and Monster have noticed additional problems when users are wireless.
I just checked out the DirectQ engine (RC) for the first time today, and was pretty impressed. You have to be running Windows with a recent version of Direct-X runtimes installed.
When you set the gamma, and console size to your liking, it really has a nice visual appearance....and they way they did the centerprints with the tab and showing the map name at the top of the scoreboard was also a nice touch.
