    Linux = -10 off of ping?

    Back a few years ago, everyone marvelled at Magnesium's incredible 40 ping -- back at a time when that was highly unusual. (Today, that's fairly common, I get sub-40 on many servers and many others do, some like Tical get sub-20 ping on certain servers).

    Anyway, Phenom is using Linux now and before he was pinging 19 to 28 at Bomber. Now he gets 9 ping there.

    The only engine he could get running was DarkPlaces, which the word is that it is the most Linux friendly engine.

    (He did show me a screenshot of it, and I guess everything was very dark -- but it worked! I didn't ask him if tried DP's brightness slider bar.).

    Yes, darkplaces works better on my ubuntu than winxp. It doesn't crash and is pretty smooth (as far as high graphics go). But my laptop doesn't have a video card so it runs really slow when graphics get intense (WHICH DOESNT HELP ME WHEN THERE ARE 3 PEOPLE ON MY SCREEN FIRING wep8 AT ME )

    I'm still trying to get sqpro to work properly (mouse working and no SU priviledges needed)

      When I traceroute anywhere my first couple hops total under 3 ms so there isn't much room for improvement.

        Operating systems don't change your latency.

        What ever executable he is running he has the fps way up. If your connection and pc can handle a high frame rate do it. For example if I put fps to default 72 I maintain a constant ping of 20 to SHMACK/Phathookups. But if I up my fps up my ping goes lower. I've been clocked at -3 before

          I think it's silly to think that Linux gives faster packet sending/recieving than Windows. It's not part of the OS that contributes to most of it.

              I heard some talk about maybe the government passing a universal broadband law to mandate broadband access by 2007 (hmmm ... that's just next year --- not gonna happen).

              Considering how poorly Congress does things, I wouldn't count on that though.

                The only thing that should lower ping is a change within your ISP or maybe your 2nd computer finished downloading porn?

                  If i connect to a server using Darkplaces my ping drops -15-20 also... (under XP)
