  • DarkPlaces server How do I make one?

    Hey, I'm trying to run a mod on a DarkPlaces server but I can't seem to get both the server and client to sync up.

    Since I'm using DarkPlaces I stripped away many models and plan to add new content as I go.

    Can a DarkPlaces server support auto-download of MDL, MAP etc files so the player just has to connect and play with the new content?

    Turns out I know nothing about running a DarkPlaces server!

    Client "crow" dropped
    crow left the game with -2 frags
    Works but the model is too small.

    I may have to change the ip to the wan one.

      Hah!

      Yeah I was able to connect, thanks!

      It's good to see your work in motion on a sever even if it is broken still heh..

      I accidently borked the player.mdl and had to re-do everything in the model file but I'll be back with a functioning player.mdl and example soon!

        What was your ping?
        The server should have appeared in the darkservers list as qungfu also.
        go look and see that it appears from the menu and it should list the ping there as well and tell me plz.

            It's not the size that matters! My Qung Fu models can punch and flip! Take away the original ranger's axe and gun and you'd be lucky to make it past e1m1!

            seriously though, I don't know why they look so small.

            Now that I think of it.. think I forgot to scale up the model before re-animating and exporting, dangit!!

                  I believe darkplaces has a setscale or some shit where you can do it in an ent. Something about what I just said isn't right but maybe it will point you in the right direction.

                      I am speaking from memory, but it seemed like Phenom was interested in using some darkplaces specific modifications. This project is in such an early state I doubt any definitive answers could really be given at this point. I can say it will probably mostly depend on the engine support for Phenoms ideas. Personally I would like to see broader support than just darkplaces, I think this would be a great PSP game.

                      <....Goes back to writing some qc for Qung Fu.

                        I'm thinking the real-time physics could come in handy, that thing they made for Q1 thats like Havok/PhysX, except for Q1.

                          What is this real time physics you speak of, and where do I get/find it? We need that (i think) Phenom wants models to "push back" when kicked/punched. I'm sure I could do it without a physics engine, but I could do even more with one.
