Wanted to add grass, but i want to be sure if this could actually work with darkplaces as i added an alpha map to the image.

sure darkplaces supports textures with transparency.
ive used textures with transparency myself for models before, works fine in DP
also, one example of similar model with transparency by seven in DP you can see here:
