  • Skybox problem

    I have the last build of Qrack and i think it's pretty cool, but, i have a problem.
    I downloaded that kothic skybox compilation, i put them in C:\QUAKE\qrack\textures\env folder, then i tried the loadsky command and all that stuff but it just doesn't work!
    Could anyone please tell me how to load the bloody skyboxes? I'm tired of seeing that ugly pink bubblegum thing as sky.

    put them in ur "-game folder" if u use one (see commandline), under \env (not \textures\env) and load them like this:

    if the box is called "elbrus_dn.png" (etc.. etc... 6times) type: r_skybox elbrus

    so just the first part of the boxname

    if u dont use a "-game folder", i think u'll have to put em in the ID1\env folder.. maybe qrack\env works as well..

      The kothic skyboxes are for Quake3 not quake1

          Thanks Peg, you're a diamond. Now all I need to know is how stop all my players looking completely white, i.e. devoid of all detail, when I use qrack1.7 so that I can recognise who's who on gchq/Damage/etc and know who I should be running from :d

          P.S Good work to whoever wrote Qrack (Rook?) and keep it up we really do appreciate it!! Love the blooms by the way and it works well with an assortment of mods.

            Thanks anyway. I thought they were for Q1 since they were posted in this page...
            I'll try with those Q1 skyboxes.

            (the bloom and the lava smoke effects are great, and the sparks from explosions )

              Unzip this player model in all progs folders u can find (including all mods) and set "cl_teamskin 0" in qrack.. that should take care of it i think

                It doesn't work, i followed your instructions but nothing happens. The only skybox i can load is "morose", the one that is included in the files of qrack.

                I downloaded the elbrus skybox, i followed your advise, nothing happened, then i coverted it to TGA, i resized it to 256 square, i set it at 256 colors, just as the elbrus readme says and nothing.

                do skyboxes for qrack must have an specific format?

                    make sure u have all the files that come with the box.. they consist of 6 sides of the cube also u may need to set r_mapname_skybox 0 if that is set to 1.. for normal sky i think u need to set r_skyscroll 1

                    also i noticed that i have converted all of them skyboxes to .png (i dont remember if this was needed bit it works for me, so u might as well try that)

                      Kothic skyboxes display perfect in my EZQuake...
                      But, if name is
                      "elbrus_dn.png" (etc.. etc... 6times)
                      typing must be: r_skybox elbrus_
                      The missing "_" at the end fooled me too!

                        Could you put the skybox pictures on a site other than FilePlanet? They are charging for the downloading. Unless you are getting a cut of the membership fee then I might pay for the download. Seems a bit steep though.
                        Or, if someone has them already downloaded would it be rude of me to ask for a copy of them?

                          i made a .rar archive of lots of skyboxes made by speedy and kell

                          just unzip (unrar) these into your "~/qrack/env" folder
                          or if your using -game blabla in command-line,
                          unzip (unrar) to "~/blabla/env" folder..

                          (make a new "env" subfolder if it does not exist yet)

                          in-game set the sky box by typing
                          r_skybox boxname_
                          where boxname is the name of the skybox you want to use..

                          (pressing the TAB-key will come in handy here for completing the boxname)

                            dude.

                            just set up a skybox config in your autoexec.cfg in your ezquake directory. so skyboxes are assigned to specific maps.

                            example:

                            skygroup frozendusk e1m1 e2m1 e3m1 e4m1

                            skygroup oasisnight agenda blood-thirst buffy castle qffldm2 schloss shroud2 spinev2 ztndm4
