Ok... I've been having a problem with them... They glitch on me...
but only if I use r_wateralpha 0 or go out side the map in observer mode...and when I'm under water and start to go up and get at the brim of the water...

When it glitches it turns everything orange and if I move it smudges the picture of the map across my screen...Also when some one shoots and if I glitch their splash damage starts to smudge until I get outta the area I am glitching in..

It wont let me use fov 110 which is my default fov... Do any of you have suggestions of what could be wrong??? Could it be my graphics card or could be something wrong with the Quake Engine, like a corrupt file or something :/

I had a similar problem on certain maps where that would happen randomly at times or something (can't remember exactly). I just switched to QRack and never looked back

I've never been able to get an FOV above 103 to work with GLPro, dating back to 2003. I've used higher FOVs but usually go back to 90 because of the mild fisheye effect.

If you maintain a high degree of control over your environment, the odds of someone sneaking up on you isn't that great anyway

High FOVs works fine with JoeQuake or QRack.

I just stick with 90 too, the higher ones are too weird for me...

I thought XQuake was a good client, but Trujen not releasing the source like the GPL requires kinda ruined it.

In modern times, the biggest problem trying to use XQuake is that there was a patch written into GLPro in late 2002 later adopted by JoeQuake and inherited into QRack that is almost required for using Quake on any computer with a broadband router.

XQuake doesn't have that code and since there is no source for XQuake out there, it can't be modified to use it.

XQuake was an outstanding client other than the whole ugly source code issue.

I stopped playing when we were going to use the cheatfree clients :/
              I just moved to QW..
the problem back then was that lots of players still used q95.bat because it was smoother etc... and we couldnt handle the cheating in touneys..
When I first started playing QW I was so happy that there was some sort of controll over the cheating, so u knew no1 used Wallhack/aimbot etc..

and after the last SQL (a european 4on4 NQ tourney) in 2003, 90% of the NQ players left and most of them started playing QW witch actually is better on the internet, I still love to play NQ with ticrate 0 on lan... but that dosnt happen so often!

I have to admit that cheat-free ProQuake was vital to the credibility of Quake, because the cheating problem was so out of control that you didn't know who was clean and who was illegit.

Yeah, it would have been nice if the XQuake guy and the ProQuake guy could have worked something out because the biggest downside to cheat-free is not being able to use the client you like.

And back a few years ago, not all the computers that everyone had were good enough to run GL ProQuake well or even WinProQuake, a lot of times good old Q95.bat was the only viable alternative.

A few years ago when FuhQuake was all the rage, I got more interested in QuakeWorld but the physics and mods just aren't same.

Yeah, I tried playing QW with FuhQuake several times, but I just couldn't stand the weird physics and laggy crap. Plain ole' netquake is the way to go.

when I first started playing QW I didnt like it at all!!

It feelt strange to play QW, ppl jumped so fast, the game was so fast, the rl didnt seem the same and I couldnt do the RocketJumps that I wanted

but somehow I felt inlove with Endif and mid_air and from that I just got inloved with it..

the ping dosnt feel so strange if its 80 or 13 in QW at the start, but when u play it more and more u feel a huge different between ping 13 and 28 even
In NQ it iddnt matter if I had 80 or 10

Im just saying that there are lots of nice stuff with QW and with NQ but nowdays the 4on4 dmm1 in QW is the best thing that has been created on this earth and I still enjoy watching/playing some nice quality 4on4 games each day that comes

                      qw

Well, if I cant find a game anywhere else, I'll load up quake3, or quakeworld.
QuakeWorld has its nice features, autodownload, server browser etc.. but
honestly, the prediction code can feel like cl_nolerp 1 compared to NQ at the same ping. Ping 28 on netquake at ticrate 0.05 vs QW at ping 28 only feels different physically (at the same fps) because of the ticrates. But optically the prediction code for me looks like un-interpolated model transform. I suppose this is easy to get used to after a few games. But for me NQ at sub 50 ping is still my choice. ( Oh and that strafe-bunny hoppy into infinity of QW is just silly! )

I have no idea what our friend Rook just said, but I still use xQuake. That's just because I'm too lazy to use any another. Maybe I'll try JoeQuake soon, maybe it'll fix my lag issue!

You should give QRack a try, no joke. Hydro, Yellow No. 5, Steve, Tia and others use it and you can kick ass with it.

10 to 1, your lag issue with XQuake is that you have the max_fps set to 999. Try setting it to 100 or so. This is the most common XQuake problem is that the max_fps is set way to high, causing intermittent lag.

Yeah I agree that the strafe-bunny hop is a little lame... I have QRack, but I will NOT use it regularly until they make one with a security module. It also raises my ping a little bit, and I do not really have much need for those spiffy graphics, although they are nice, they get in the way of my game size. I would rather just use plain 'ole GLQuake.
