OK, so I'm creating location files for every map available on the servers we play, and so forth. I know the new Qrack will support automatic downloading, and I figure if possible, it could include automatic downloading of the location files, correct? If we get these all done, it would be a very positive addition to getting new players, and improving gameplay together.

Who wants to help? We can meet up on the servers, go through it at a good pace.

I hope you are successful. Although I've made 4-5 loc files, I found that the ProQuake style loc files are very difficult to make especially on non-boxy maps.

Very easy with fly mode and noclip, you make your own boxes. And it's completely normal for rectangles to overlap each other.

Does this mean you don't wanna assist?

Ok, well, I made location files for 4 maps tonight. R00k showed me that Qrack assists you in creating location files, so this is gonna take a LOT less time than I thought, and a lot less effort, still a lot of time though

I'll have a locations download for a LOT of maps you don't have soon. I'll upload the link here.

Actually I was thinking about just this , in todays games there is ventrillo or skype being used more so than Quake's Location method.

Something that does not exist to this day is a feature that I rather enjoyed quite a bit. For those who used the enhanced GL Engine XQuake or ProQuake+ , Trujen created a useful command called

          "Location?"

and anyone using XQuake with the same colors as you auto-responded with their location.

I rarely bother using the locations and such lately, its just no longer appealing to me anymore

I want some variety , It would be nice if I could request Location from players all using Qrack, or maybe even an over-laying map in the corner showing off team positions, much like in UrbanTerror (which, there is a free version now!)

Minus the "Location?" contribution to your last post, it was a bunch of hater-ade on my plan here. I don't need your negativity BOY! Besides, having locations helps nubs learn maps faster.

And we don't much use ventrillo in quake - some do - but most just loc's and there's a lot of missing loc's.

I was actually thinking about radar though, didn't know if it was possible, but you know how in Call Of Duty 4 how when an enemy fires it appears as a red dot on the radar? Could be considered cheating in quake1 though... who knows... back to work on my locs

man, i just did ctf2m4, Ruins of NeoMinonk (you ctfer's know this map), and let me tell you, it was TIME CONSUMING, but we officially have locations for that map and i dont think we ever have, maybe we can learn it now and play it more. I think Clan RuM secretly made locations back in the day and didn't pass them out - during quake's competitive age hehe, remember how good they were at that map?

p.s. the 1 thing i can't find is the damn RL

I created binds way way back in the day before ProQuake had %l macros.

                bind 7 "say_team at/near enemy base"
                bind 6 "say_team Sighted Enemy's Flag Carrier "

                then typing 6 7 ,

R00k: "Sighted Enemy's Flag Carrier at/near enemy base"

This was all manual, I had to train myself to press up to 6 key-combos for this type of communication.
Having to read your mm2 messages to me kinda adds more challenge sure, but I wonder how many people actually read 'em?

Maybe a feature to play a pre-recorded male voice with the location phrase.
imagine if i had 20 .wav files assigned to $macros, then if I bound mouse3 for example, "say_team I am at %l $location" it would print to the console my location but also that location points to the macro to play a sound file. "I am at Yellow Armor".

to get the rl, go into the LEFT eye, then go up, and up again keeping left, in the dark corner straight ahead is a small alcove, where you'll find the RL, RA is hidden like that too!

If you're just tuning in and skipped the reading, I've created 20 new .location files:

                              bastard.loc
                              ctf2m4.loc
                              ctf2m7.loc
                              ctf3m8.loc
                              ctfgold1.loc
                              qtdm3.loc
                              skull.loc
                              sofdm3.loc
                              trimp.loc
                              ztndm3.loc
                              ctf2.loc
                              ctf6.loc
                              ctfgold2.loc
                              aerowalk.loc
                              fragtwn5.loc
                              q3dm6qw.loc
                              end.loc
                              macarena.loc
                              ztndm2.loc
