Small Mod compilation

  • I did a fresh install of smc today, but endup very disappointed with the final result. I don't know if I need to add extra textures and models. I already installed the 6 major files from the first page:

    • darkplacesengineautobuild_20130709
    • Download Quake Version V4.50
    • Download Mission Pack 1 Version V4.15 + Update to V4.31
    • Download Mission Pack 2 Version V4.15 + Update to V4.31


    I'm using the autoexec.cfg from the Update to V4.31

    Here what it looks like right now (on linux, the windows version is 2% better)

      it dose not look like you have the smc in your list of pk files. try to reinstall. and see the read me. it was tricky for me the fist time i installed it.

      • the smc does not include any hi-poly replacement models or hi-res textures or such.
        the SMC itself only modifies gameplay elements

        in the rar from the SMC there is a starters-pack for multi-skin which you can drop in your ID1 folder though, it contains some HD monsters

        .

        if you like the multi-skin/multi-model feature from SMC you should also check these threads,
        they contain multi-skin packs for monsters which contain more options then the starters-pack included with the SMC
        multi-skin for hi-poly monsters
        multi-skin for ID1 monsters

        .

        for hi-res textures, check out the QRP texture-packs, they are the best HD texture-packs imo:

        for all items and pickups and powerups, check out ruohis models:

          Hello vegetous,

          First of all, Thank you for trying the "small mod compilation"

          I know you from the Quake Brasil homepage, so you seem a person who knows Quake very well.
          So, I am very suprised about your ID1 folders screenshot...
          You do NOT have the SMC installed !

          You have some weird "maps" and "sound" subfolder and a mystical "pak2.pk3" and "pak3.pk3" file.
          Nobody knows what these files and subfolders are or contain.
          That is not how a fresh Quake install with SMC looks like.

          It should look like this:




          And even when you extracted the SMCs .pk3 file into your ID1 folder, you will end up with a lot more subfolders and files, than shown in your screenshot.
          Renaming the SMCs .pk3 file does also not explain why you have 2 .pk3 files in your ID1 folder.
          So, to use LordHavocs words:
          You are doing something wrong

          Regarding the installation instruction in the readme.txt from the Quake SMC:
          It should not leave any doubts, as it contains only 1 sentence :
          Installation:
          Simply put the .pk3 file into your ID1 folder.

          So, to summarize, I do not know what you did, so it is hard for me to find the reasons for your issues.


          And when you write:

          Why should you do this ?
          You use SMC V4.50. So, why you use an autoexec.cfg sample from V4.31 ?

          Each SMC:
          - Quake
          - Mission pack 1
          - Mission pack 2
          has its own .pk3 file with its own autoexec.cfg sample.
          The files go into ID1 or MP1 or MP2 folder (just like it is explained in the readme.)

          You should first start with only the ID1 (=original Quake) SMC, before doing anything with the mission packs. As you see, it only confuses you.


          Your youtube clip is marked "private", that is why we canot see it.
          I can only see the start frame of the clip. It shows no particle flame.
          That is another indicator that you did NOT "install" the SMC.

          The word "install" is a bit overdone for simply droping a single .pk3 file into your ID1 folder, right ?
          Because that is what needs to be done to use the SMC:
          Only drop 1 single .pk3 into your ID1 folder
          (or any other mod folder if you prefer)


          Next thing is:
          What did you excpect from the SMC ?
          All features are listed at the 1st post of this thread.

          You will also find the purpose of the "small mod compilation" there:
          Main target of the "small mod compilation" is to keep the gameplay of original Quake, but bring new features/ideas to increase the playing experience.

          Almost all of its features can be enabled/disabled via cvar (please read the included readme.txt for details) so you can adjust your Quake to your personal liking.
          I think it should be now clear what to expect from the "small mod compilation".
          It is meant for sinple player by the way (but may also work for multiplayer).
          And if you are disappointed with the final result, like you mentioned, it is alright.
          It is just a small mod, written from a noob coder. So, do not excpect too much


          And I do not want to talk about any replacement files here !
          These are personal liking things which you can find tons of in this forum or elsewhere.
          But I am very sure you already know all of them, because you use many many of them in your QuakeBrasil eXtreme Pack !

          I hope this could bring some light into your issue.

          • I can't really use packs with names like "this is texture pack bla bla bla.pk3". I need some old fashioned organization level like, pak0.pk3, pak1.pk3, etc.

            So...

            pak2.pk3 = Quake_V4.50_small-mod-compilation_Seven.pk3

            pak3.pk3 = Starter Kit - multiskin+multimodel ID1 monsters Seven V4.50.pk3

            ... and so forth!

            Tested this installation on my desktop HD7850 with the exactly same settings (first video was made in the laptop with intel HD4000), and the result was much better.

            • holy guacamole... wtf is up with the insane high fov and the crazy fish-eye effect?

              i cant even watch your clip longer then a few seconds cuz the fish-eye effect is so crazy cuz of your way to high fov

              also your lighting has waaaaaaaaaaaay to much bloom
              .

              • Second thoughts...

                It was probably not using the same settings, since Darkplaces stores settings @ user_folder\My Games\Darkplaces. Which means it's probably using some old config found there.

                  • Please stop posting the same things over and over again.

                    I would like to keep at least this thread clean of this:
                    "Hey look, I found a texture which was packed in pack "A". I repacked the texture from pack "A" into a completely new pack "B". And by doing this I added this wonderful texture from pack "C".
                    Now the world has a new pack "D" which is a LOOOT better than all the rest."
                    Please keep your amazing pack-links out of this thread.
                    There are enough other threads where people love to repack things and even claim to be there own, because they changed the contrast of 1 single texture.

                    This behaviour at quakeone starts to make me feel sick and feel like beeing in the wrong place.

                    • Yea, alot of the "hardcore" experienced players out there use a high FOV like that. It def gives you an advantage over playing multiplayer where others are using the default 90 value. I have argued its cheating for years, but they insist its not a cheat. I think you can develop eye strain trying to compete in multiplayer games where people are doing that. Your eye will constantly be looking on the outer edges of the FOV back and fourth more often than usual....faster and faster. I have noticed trouble with my eyes alot when playing against these kind of players in real online games.

                        • yeah seems everyone wants to get praised for some amazing HD pack they 'made' by putting piling together some content
                          and then calling it their own 'super amazing HD pack' or something like that and trying to get some popularity through those packs,
                          and often even claim they made the content or such
                          .

                            All versions V4.55 Release

                            New Features:
                            - optional chase / upsidedown camera when player is dying
                            - optional visible player legs (aka lower half of the body) when looking down
                            - optional visual "stretched" animation view when using teleporters
                            - optional adding various extra particle effects to teleporters, slipgates and end-map-teleporters
                            - multi-model feature for player models

                            - all weapons do no longer spawn TE_ particles when shooting in skies
                            - Quake: shooting Shub will now spawn correct particles
                            - MP1: fixed DP related bug which adds damage from rubbles even though they are lying on the floor
                            - MP1: replaced original bullet holes code with particle bullet holes
                            - MP2: shooting time machine will now spawn correct particles

                            PS: We now have almost hit the max. effect quantity limit in effectinfo.txt for Rogue !
                            I knew this would happen one day, hehe.
                            But do not worry, everything works as it should. Only additional map-effects are reduced to "1" per map in Rogue now due to the limit. Rain and snow is not affected, as they do not use effectinfo.txt effects.
                            If you need more custom map-effects (for lava haze for example), you must delete some from effectinfo.txt (the armor is a maybe a good start).

                            Hello,

                            In order to preserve the tradition and create some "interesting" pictures together with SM-release-posts, I would like to try something new today.
                            Inspired by one of my favorite movies "Constantine", I tinkered a little with some movie scenes...

                            I think there are some parallels between this movie and Quake
                            Anyhow, I love both

                            Please excuse the weird idea... maybe I should better stick with monkeys
