Muuuuch better! Can I request one more thing? The chest looks a tad bit plain. Can you perhaps add a few horizontal plates across the chest, similar to the original DOE version? The original almost looks like bars, in fact. I think that would add to the semi-bland appearance of the chest. Other than that, I like it a lot better than the previous version! It actually looks like stone now.
I do miss the vertical plates on the "skirt" in the original version (and in King Hazaa's version), but oh well. The new version does look good.
Ah yes, that's much better! Glad to help!
For the record, I also used a few photos of old, moldy statues in South East Asian temples as a reference)!
All I have left to say is to reduce the shine some more, smudge the details a tiny bit (make it look like he got REALLY old weatherworn and dusty), and some algae spots (literally just feather-brushed spots using a few different colors on about half-opacity, and voila!
And yes, sorry to say Nergal, but I'm also looking forward to the Death Knight statue (I'll try to avoid saying what classical Greek figure it looks like for now to save time (it's a Minotaur cough cough) )
Also, I could throw up a mummy one soon if you want..... (as I said, I've studied a lot of different mummified corpses to see how they preserve differently- ahem, hobby of mine)!

PS- To answer your question, generally sticking to grey stone still counts as monochrome
You did the right thing adding mold!
Grey stone is good if you want to give the impression that a place is either
1- well looked after (the statues are kept in a tidy, dry place, or at least get a good scrubbing on a regular basis)
2- Strange magic prevents mold, grime from ever forming (eg a creepy hygiene conscious Wizard might do this).
But considering much of Quake is in either ancient run-down derelict castles, or underground tombs/caverns, it would be grime central!

Unfortunately awesome textures appear not so awesome once ingame, expecially in Quake. We've also to factor readibility and blend with the surrounding environment for example.
@Kinghazza: yes, definetely a Minotaur.. I used to practice tauromachy so I know one when I see it
If you like mummification processes, El Fayoum is a good case in study from an archeological standpoint.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Great minotaur statue skin there. I think that can be called the final version, minus the black dot that ooppee mentioned. Get rid of it.
Were you going to post some screenshots of the skins you said you already completed but were thinking about redoing? In particular, I would love to see some of the Centroid skins. You guys said a while back that you had made like 4 different versions.
