Ah, those damned low-poly-absurd-mdl-format quake models...
I thought about remaking them, but I'm busy and I should find explicit infos somewhere about the modus operandi, before even considering the thing, BUT it would be cool

I remember I was searching for a .mdl to .obj converter, but nothing!
Maybe it's time to open a thread to gather all the mankind knowledge on the topic or it already exists?

    bye

Hey folks - I went through this thread and was totally amazed about the work and support I see here. I just installed Quake again to live up the good old times . Theres is one thing I like to ask and it might be a bit off-theme; but the last time I installed quake with Darkplaces, I was surely amazed about the graphics it gave me to such an "never-get-old" game. But what I have seen here in this thread is totally thrilling me even more. First the new skins for sure but also the graphic quality you guys tickled out of....?

And here is my question why I write this all. Is this DarkPlaces with Rygels texture pack on the Screens like here ?

                http://quakeone.com/attachments/foru...w_enforcer.jpg

If no, what engine is used on this ? If its DarkPlaces, can someone post the settings ? I would be really thankful-

Greets and keep it up with the skins
I really look forward to play Quake again with those

                Cheers

Hi CarVio, if you're a die-hard quake lover, you're at home here
Mr. Enforcer and Mr. Grunt answered to your question below...

Yes, those are Rygel's textures but we're doing our hi-res ones as well, for SoA and DoE, though we only showcase skins here.

If I had more time I entered in more detail, but it's just fine if you start with rygel's Ultra pack. By the way, we have a dedicated section in our site for this kind of questions, where we explain our setup and everything you need to install (skins, models, etc.). I'll link it to you when we're ready (asap).

                  bye

Yay I definately feel at home here Can't wait to get this quality out of QUAKE (since in my oppinion, QUAKE 1 is way the best QUAKE so far). I would be thankful for a Link how to set up things. Thanks a lot for the help.

                    • Any chance of a release of the textures you have made so far? They look excellent, for the most part.

My only comments on a few of them, are that they suffer from the same problem a lot of skinners fall into -- too much brightness/contrast. Quake assumes that textures/skins are extremely dark, usually at the 50% and lower mark, so that once in-game lighting is applied they come out looking "room temperature" brightness. If people make skins or textures at normal brightness levels, above the 50% mark, then once in-game lighting is applied they lose most of their detail to the full-bright syndrome.

Your enforcer looks perfect, and the grunt and knight almost as good (in terms of brightness/contrast). The hellknight and ogre looked way over-bright/contrasty, creating the black-and-white look many skins suffer from.

Anyhow, please don't take these as harsh criticism! The skins look amazing and they are my favourites that I have seen thus far from anyone.

Please release something for us desperate fans! Just individual Targas or JPEGs in the forum posting and we can do the rest, if needs be. :-/

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

                          • On a side note- I think you should use the similar green on the Enforcer's backpacks around the rest of his armour- to help him stand out a bit more from the colours of the walls.

Fancy 10,000 poly models, lighting, and extra effects kill fps - not skins. Assuming you aren't going to be using the super-duper ultra fancy Darkplaces lighting effects, these skins shouldn't slow the game down in the least.
