  • UPDATE: Quake Server Browser

*Major update/rework to Quake Server Browser*

    Untitled Page

I pretty much completed an entire re-write of the QSB site. It is still a work in progress, but new features include ideas never seen before in a server browser.

    Current Features:
-MATCH DETECTION! See who played against who, when
-Alias list: Even though every name is a unique player, similar IP address will appear in a possible "Alias" list when opening up player details
-Player Stats: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly frag stats

    Planned future features:
    -Server details/summery (hourly popularity)
    -Player hourly play stats
    -Player rating based on FPM
    -Player search
    -Match search

So head on over, check it out, and post feedback. You'll probably find a few bugs, so post those as well.

    -Joe "Efess"

        A couple ideas:

        - Have the empty servers arranged so that the most recently used servers are stacked just below the active ones.
        - Servers that have websites associated with them have a hyper link to their relevant site
        - Promote "could be" features to entice server developers to have their server send data to your site for more integration. (i.e.: Chat data)
        - Make space for "server flags". Icons made my server admins to represent their site

I agree, empty servers definitely need an order. I also want to be able to throttle how often the servers are queried depending on their popularity - populated servers will need to be queried more often for more accurate information.

Yes yes. A web URL would be nice.

I would definitely support a move to broaden the range of information provided by the engines. The idea is out there though, i'm not sure if promotion is necessary.

One of the future features is to have country flags by each server so you know where each is. A "server" specific flag would be doable, but it would require each server admin to provide something - i'm not sure if all server admins would be interested though.

Maybe a generic flag or country flag would fill that space for those who don't want to represent.

              A few more:

              - For entertainment purposes: Have an attendance log of Player Names per server...maybe have the log cached up to a month.
              - Keep a running log of unique Player Names to see all the creative Player Names ever used out there.
              - Have some type of statistics map like the eXTReMe Tracking tools to show usage hourly per day.
              - Allow server admins some type of note post access to make a blurb about their site.

This will be part of the server details panel. Also player with most frags, FPM, Time, etc.

                Yep this will happen

                Possible.

Also something else that might happen is a small chat box in order for people to try to get pickup games going. Kimp's been pushing me to do something like this.

I have to say I am very impressed with your site. I clicked on my name after playing, and I can see my last 5 screen names.

                  Good job

While you're messing around with the server browser, take my Travail and Hub servers off the list. I took them down because nobody ever goes there. FvF and Rquake are still running.

I guess the javascript I wrote must expose some kind of memory leak in IE. I had it open and IE went up to about 800MB and became unresponsive. So if you browse the servers site with IE, don't leave it open for more than a few minutes.

The site works GREAT in Chrome and Firefox though!

I'll look into the IE memory leak very soon

you should take this opportunity to take a stand against IE and all of its users. long live the leak! short live the corporation!
