Gave the maps a godmode/impulse 9 playthrough. Great thus far. I did get the fps hit previously mentioned however not as bad (r1m3).
Also you plan on doing the Mission Packs only Multiplayer only map (ctf1.bsp)?

that FPS hit is strange... i cant imagine what is wrong... maybe some radius are too high

ADDED R1M5. we are near to half work done =)

Radius could be caused by it, another is location. The lights could be spawning too many shadows. A simple moving a light up a few units can fix it (this came from a friend who has done a fair amount of UT mapping)

ive been told in the past that when u approach/enter a new room, your fps can take a hit, looks like that where u took the hits...
is this true btw ? thought i'd ask someone who knows

Most engines wont "draw" the effects until they are either close or visible. So that can cause the hits. A room with tons of shadows ect won't effect you until you near it.

...strange. I dont use "tons" of shadows, cause of my dark vision of quake World...

                        Dear inkub0,

I am using a "LIT-File pack" at the moment for Rogue.
Yesterday I tested your rtlights and made many comparism screenshots.

This is NOT a negative feedback. Just a remark my friend:

                        [EDITED]
The FPS is better with your rtlights !
                        [/EDITED]

                        Another remark:
You are using only very few/ little colored lights.
The thing i love in the "LIT-File pack" is that it uses very nice colored lights.
Especially in Rogue, much red-ish lights make a wonderful atmosphere.

                        Other than that:
                        Good job inkub0 !

                        Kind Regards,
                        Seven

                          Hey seven!

can you post the screenshots to see differences?
so i can better understand your words...

in fact my DoE rtlights are not "light for FPS" as my ID1 rtlights pack...

the color: i know that my rtlights are poorly colored, if you compare them to romi rtlights, but they are surely more faithful to original quake...

                          i wait your screenshots

PS: can you post that LIT file pack?
                          Ia! Ia! Shubb Niggurath!

                            Hello inkub0,

                            your wish is my command

I used exactly the same config settings while taking below screenshots.
Some screens show the colored lights very impressive, on some screens you have to look on details to see the colored lights.

This is just a objective comparism, not a judgement/rating.

LEFT is with .LIT file / RIGHT is with your .rtlights file

In my opinion, the colored lights give a very nice atmosphere/ambience.
Thats why I love the LIT-pack.

                            Kind regards,
                            Seven

there are effectively more lights in your files because i cut off many of them. My aim was to create more difference between light and dark areas... color wasnt in my mind at first.

Maybe in the final pack i'll add some "color" to it!

                              Bye

                                inkub0,

                                I just found out something:
You can easily use BOTH files (.lit + .rtlights).
Then you will have the benefit of both.

So you dont need to edit your rtlights because of colors.

If someone wants additional colored lights,
simply add the .lit files into your "maps" folder.
                                DarkPlaces will use BOTH files.

I corrected my post above (#26).
The FPS is better with your .rtlights. I mixed something up
I wondered, why other rtlights increase FPS but yours not...
Yours do the same positive thing of course !

                                Best wishes,
                                Seven
