    The Ultimate Ranger

    The modelers here have inspired me to take the plunge and contribute one of my own. I know I still need a little practice but, I'm think I'm about ready to rig and animate this beast.

    Gimme some feedback!

      I'm looking at the side view and I think the chest could be defined a little better. I haven't applied the normal map that I baked from the high poly version though, so it might not be a big deal. I think I am definitely going to add another edge loop around the waist. Also I realized I made a mistake and should have modeled the gun separately. It bends and stuff when he is running. I tried to fix it with weight paints, but I think I'm doing something wrong.

          Oh man! I have worked so hard on this and I was really apprehensive to release it. I added some edge loops and I'm currently tweaking some vertices. If you can appreciate this model you will be blown away by the next one.

                This is obviously how a Shambler sees the Quake guy when he comes across one. Obviously, MadGypsy has yet to put "Quake Guy", "Campbells" and "In tomato sauce" on the UV map. Remember, it's still WIP.

                  It's my Ranger. It's optimized. You don't like it? I know it still needs a lil work, but I was hoping it could be used for the Quake Reboot. I made a Shambler too, but I'm having problems getting the run animation to work right. Actually I'm having this problem with both models and no matter how much I weight paint it doesn't seem to work.

                  OK, I'll be back soon. Imma go practice a lil more. I realized that if I use a better skin it adds a lot more detail. I really appreciate y'alls comments. I know I can count on you guys to help me make this ground-breaking, with your input.

                        Mad Gypsy, look ...

                        I've come home several times after an action-packed Friday night after having way too much to drink, decided to post on the internet and embarrassed myself to death (which I always left visible, hoping to serve as a reminder to "not" do it again).

                        I'm not trying to add to the sense of awkwardness here, but I am kinda wondering what special surprises you have for animating a cylinder?

                        /Please let him have a master plan or, well, something ... maybe he has a great mod featuring a can opener or zombies come out of a can or ...

                          I'm having problems getting the run animation to work right. Actually I'm having this problem with both models and no matter how much I weight paint it doesn't seem to work.

                            Man, this is gonna be harder than I thought. The gun wouldn't stop bending no matter how much I weight painted so I gave up with that and decided to separate it from the model. Unfortunately then I realized that I would have to make one arm so it could hold the gun. honestly I still haven't figured out why the run animation won't work, but I'm studiously practicin'.

I am already thinking of the various animations I intend to make...like ABSOLUTELY swim, for sure. I think it's gonna take a lot of weight paint.

                            A cylinder? Thats the Ranger man. Look, I know that I can't hold a candle to some of the guys here, but a CYLINDER!? Don't you think that is a little insulting and judgmental. It's OK I know you just want me to do my best.

                              Ya' know what. I think I need to separate the legs. I have tried over 28 bones and so much weight paint that I think the can is empty and the run animation just will not do what I want it to. Imma try that...cross your fingers.
