    Kinda knew this would happen.
I am like a stray dog, lost in between what I do and what I should do.

I feel id lost direction a little after Doom 3 anyways. It was only a matter of time. Adrian Carmack departing was a huge blow already. All that was really left was technology, but not the creative innovation the company boasted all throughout the 90s. It seems that a huge part of id died when they were bought out by ZeniMax Media especially. That just made the indication clear that they were no longer the real driving force they use to be.

However, I feel John made the right decision and he is leaving behind a huge legacy. Let's hope he can fix the kinks in Oculus Rift, because that thing looks cool as all hell!

Browsing this forum again after some time and have to read this.
                  That is clearly shocking news.
So who will make Quake 5 for us now ?

Uh,...wow! I would have never expected to be the ONLY name right there. That is very nice of you to say. Actually, almost everyone you named could do the QC.

Lord Havoc, seven, nahuel, R00k, Spike, Baker and GB (at the least) - I'm probably the worst QC coder in that whole list...LOL!

Thanks again for saying that though. It was uplifting.

edit: I would also make GB the lead designer and seven a (just)designer or coder (both). I think even seven would agree that GB is light years ahead of basically all of us on the whole design thing. He is the only one in the list that is designing an entire game by himself, has an entire blog devoted to it and has been working on ALL aspects of such for like 5+ years. Sock would also be a good lead designer.

Actually, I probably don't even belong in the list Well, maybe I could join Solecord. That would be my strongest "arena". I could also build the custom gamepack for radiant. I could also write any/all tutorials that may be necessary, as well as dialogue voice acting.

You also forgot Talisa. She would be perfect for static models. JD would be a good tester. Bluntz would be good for incredibly detailed structures. Tyrann (maybe mispelled that) could be added to the designers. Spirit could be added to the web development and probably Efess too. WebAngel could also be added to the designers. I'm sure smith could be added to any of a number of the positions.

Honestly, this community is overwhelmed with incredibly talented individuals. The problem is, with that much talent and participants it would be really hard to keep everyone on the same page. You'd probably do better to pick one person for individual things, with the exception of testers and web development. And if you picked more than one for anything else you would have to make sure they get along/communicate well.

I'm also not sure how the engine coders would work out. All of those guys already made engines and some are a bit better than others. Actually, you could probably dump the entire engine coder category and just build the game against a chosen engine that already exists. The alternative is to insinuate that 4 guys with engines will come together and build a new engine - where does that leave their current one? It would probably make more sense for everyone to share some update script across all engines (if needed).

That's my take on it anyway......back to work(my work).

lol, yes i know. Thanks to these guys we have our Quake 4.5 already!
A Quake 5 would have been Rage engine, model, texture standard but put into a real Quake 1 universe. And without the cars. And for sure without any stroggs Quake2/4 nonsense.

                            Hello,

I am sure, that someday sometime someone will make a "Quake 5".

JC´s style and knowledge, which was outstanding and unreachable back in the days, has become very reachable nowadays. There is only the open question: Who wants a Quake 5 ? When everybody screams for CoD or Black Ops or Ghost or however these clones of each other are named...

Fantasy-styled shooters are no longer produced by big companies anymore.
Only indy gamers make them, love them and praise them.
                            Sad but true....
