  • EA shutting down MANY older game support (Starting 30 June 2014)

Well..... this was unexpected and very sad news.
EA will indeed be shutting down online access/support for some very popular older games still played widely worldwide.

Due to re recent announcement by gamespy to end their online services for selected games, EA has chosen to follow in those footsteps.

There is no doubt that most of us here play these games currently, just a few mentioned:

Battlefield 2 for PC (I still play this one)
Battlefield 2142 for PC and Mac (I still play this one)
    Crysis 2 for PC
    FIFA Soccer (Many of them)

What does this mean for us?: No more multilayer, which basically voids the game useless. Since a login to EA/Gamespy servers is required to authenticate users.

There are currently a few petitions on-going, but knowing what EA thinks of its customers this is not promising. Do I really want to purchase another EA game..... not with this stink in the air.

Independent companies (GameRanger) may have a new found popularity if this all goes downhill.

Doesn't EA always do this? They did it a bunch on the PSP. They were so terrible with it that games would come out and be crippled from online use in just a matter of months.

This doesn't surprise me at all. They are heartless and dump their responsibility to their customers often. I'm surprised they even still exist.

Maybe this will finally kill them off and make room for someone better to take their place.

I may be wrong but don't all (some) of those games have the potential to be hosted by a user? (like counterstrike) If so, who cares if they dump their server, make your own ro maybe find someone that already has.

Darn, and I wanted to buy Battlefield 2 sometime, since it's by many considered the best BF out there.

They should update those games and make them independent. But since we're talking about EA, that would never happen anyway...

If you read that in a "out of the corner of my eye, not really paying attention" way, it says Hitler Piz (Piss). Well, that's what I thought it said anyway, til I hit the double-take.

hahahaha I'm not dyslexic but I suffer from "up fo(u)r days" syndrome often. it kinda sucks cause the longer I stay up the longer I am going to stay up. I'm under the belief that I could potentially never sleep again if I really tried. Generally when i start hearing voices that aren't there I shut it down. Then again maybe they are there. Maybe the key to talking to other dimensions is to break your brain down to some rudimentary functionality. I can never understand what they are saying though and it generally sounds like a lot of people talking at one time. Like I tapped into a busy sidewalk or something.
