  • Snow/Ice/White out conditions!

I preach to my wife and myself all the time about driving slow during these conditions, Snow, Ice, Rain, White Out's and so on. However today I went on the ride of a life time and never expected it to ever happen to me as I always slow down during these bad conditions.

BLACK ICE: This crap is NO joke at all.

I was passing a car in the left hand lane at 35 mph as the vehicle I was passing was going 30 mph in the right hand lane and just before I decided to pass I let another truck go by who was doing at least 45-50 mph. There was standing snow on top of the road which I have been driving on for the last 260 miles here in Pennsylvania on I-80 with constant snow and burst of white out condition's and have had no trouble's at all. As soon as I jumped into the left lane I knew I was in trouble as I felt my rear end slip from underneath the truck and I thought to myself 'OH SHIT HERE WE GO', As the truck was going to the right toward the vehicle I was passing I had to counter steer the truck back to the left and at this point I was in a jack knife position but some way some how the truck pulled back straight and off into the median I went. I slid for well over 500 feet before coming to a stop. I stayed calm during all of this until I finally was able to get it to stop did my heart start racing like WTF just happened? Anyway, It does not matter how fast you go or slow you go black ice is NO JOKE. Another 18 wheeler parked it in the median 1/2 mile behind me and he also hit a patch of black ice.

Here is one of my picture's just showing the truck in the median. My wife and I are ok and are in a hotel for the weekend as the State Police will not allow the tow truck's to operate in non-emergency situation's due to the weather conditions. It is -6 degree's out right now and lightly snowing. Be safe if you are in this crap.

      Thank's

It hit -36 with windchill in South bend, Indiana Last night. It was -17 without. suck's having to get out in this crap and open doors, walk into shippers and do deliveries and crap in it. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it and if I should go back to the sheriff's office.

@Wicked_Lord: I am glad you are safe friend! Luckily I often didn't have to deal with the worse of the winter storms out there. But I've hit a few bad patches here and there. It's worth it tho! Without guys like you supplies, food, clothes, goods, etc. None of it would get delivered! Gotta keep the economy going! We all appreciate the work you do! I have personal experience to let me know just how rough what you do really is and how very important.

Cool! I've been there before, it seemed like a nice place. I even visited a head shop while there, I still have a pipe from that trip.

Your truck came under control, saving you a fortune because you, without agenda, put a homeless man in a real hotel room with a pizza. Karma must work like a free clinic. You take the test one day and get your results up to a week later.

                    Congratulations, you don't have AIDS.

I don't understand... Was that a metaphor? Interesting stuff. Just out of curiosity, why did you write this?

LOL.. I was going to mention something as well, but I did understand what he meant by it even if it was in his own twisted way.

No but where you live your chances are probably 1000x's greater then mine. Be careful where you stick it!
