  • Stop Script and Other Stuff

    1) I frequently get Stop Script alerts on this site, recently. My guess is the ads in the upper right.

    2) I have limited bandwidth that is not cheap. The ads in the right are videos, often. I understand Quakeone needs to make it's money but, my opinion is that it shouldn't cost me a bunch of bandwidth to participate here. I also understand that I could use some adblock software... seems like a lot of mess just to visit a forum. Ads never bothered me (I even click[through] them sometimes), video ads on the other hand...

    There are 2 options

    1) Expect Solecord to be able to control what the ads and advertisers are.
    2) Get adblock.

And one of the options is impossible.
Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

      Might as well add:

For the longest time, I didn't use adblocking but when sites started having ads that would play audio after 5 minutes and you have 12 tabs open and can't find the ads/video that is being annoying ...

^ Use Chrome! When audio plays from a tab, the tab gets an audio icon added to it.

As Baker said, I can't control what ads are shown. I use Google Adsense and they just insert ads in based on their inventory. It is what it is.

          Understood.

re: Stop Script alerts - ??? surely there is something to be done here. I assumed it to be the ads. I'll use firebug to be sure next time.

If you are using FireFox, why not click on this link and be done with it?

            https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir.../adblock-plus/

You could double down and do this one too:

            https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/fir...flash-control/

Then you would be impervious to crap of any kind.

It is fortunate that commercial advertisers decided to standardize on Flash and HTML5 video.

If they did text ads and static image ads instead of Flash and a metric ton of javascript, none of this would be necessary, but at least it is easy enough to stop.

Thank you. That solves the laptop internet but, I am actually having these issues on my phone. I need to do a lil search and see what my mobile options are. I don't use mobile FF because it is too memory hungry.

To be clear... stop script = laptop, bandwidth hungry ads = any device. I actually don't get stop script equivalent alerts on my stock android browser, at least not on this site... (and yes my laptop browsers are up to date).

I guess I could spin my own android browser with an ad blocker but hopefully someone has already done this. I think it would be a bit ironic if I made an AIR browser to block Flash (considering AIR is nothing but flash with native system access)
