  • I Did An Awesome

2 weeks ago I got fired from my job. I would like to add that the reason had nothing to do with me personally. It really boiled down to management stepping up and actually managing something or losing me. In the process of me taking a gamble, I pushed it too far and was fired before I could quit.

I basically gave a bunch of lazy losers an ultimatem to step up and work or lose what you got. Of course lazy people don't want to work and that was my gamble.

Anyway, I spent 2 weeks not even looking for a job cause I'm not monetarily challenged. Today I woke up, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and I decided to get a job. I got on CL saw one job that interested me and made up my mind that I was going to get it. I showed up the second the doors opened, met the owner with a firm handshake and direct eye-contact. Not 10 minutes later I was leaving with the responsibility to be there tomorrow at 10 am ready for work.

How cool is that? It can barely be said that I even tried to get a job. One ad, one decision, one stop, one success. This is a recurring theme in my life. When I decided to leave the warehouse I was in a new apartment 2 days later. Yet another one ad, one decision, one stop, one success situation. I could name more of these, quite a few more actually. I DIRECTLY attribute my no stress life to the uncountable number of people I have helped over the span of the last 20 years. I almost believe that God/The Great Spirit/Whatever you want to call him/her, has to keep me working or other people are gonna starve to death.

Anyway, I think I made a good decision as to where I decided to apply. It's been around a while, has pretty good ratings on the internet and seems to be incredibly busy. All that tells me I should be making at least what I was making at my last (almost identical) job, which was better than merely a living wage. I mean for 3 years I have worked about 28 hours a week and saved at least a few hundred a week. I don't know too many people that are that fortunate in my line of work. I can bank about 14k a year after bills with part-time work... I hope this job can step up to my standards. I shall see very soon.

Congrats! Hopefully the work entails something you find enjoyable or falls into the wheelhouse of your hobby's / passions!

It's just another bar job. I'll be cooking, bar-backing and shucking oysters (pay+tips). I would say 18 to 20 an hour average (after tips) is probably a good estimate. As far as liking the job, of course I don't like it. Who really wants to work in a bar? I don't even drink. But like it or not has nothing to do with it. I am VERY good at it.

I am so good at it, that the owner could tell that I was dead fucking serious when I told him I will smoke anyone you have ever hired.

I'm a ringer, plain and simple. I am also crammed with energy and it is impossible for me to be lazy cause I HATE doing nothing. It's not even about work-ethics. My M.O. is, if you have nothing for me to do, I gotta go.

Thanks, QuakeKid. Me too. If not, I'll just get another one. Honestly, I almost started pursuing a career as a programmer. I mean I have something stupid like 12+ languages under my belt and learning new ones is a nothing at this point. It almost always boils down to little more than new syntax. However, there is this bad taste in my mouth when I consider turning my hobby into a job, and that bad taste is amplified when I consider having to sign some piece of paper that says some company now owns my code.

If I ever become a paid programmer, it will have to be because I finally got off my butt and built some independent operation.

guess not, but I don't doubt that the files still reside somewhere on either of their computers. (one can hope right!)

Yesterday I went to this job and I didn't even stay through lunch.

                        1) Absolutely no air-conditioning in the kitchen and this joint is running 3 pizza ovens, 2 friers, a grill, a flat-top, a regular oven and a broiler. It was like 200 summin in the kitchen. I can take the heat. I'm not putting my health at risk just to make some fucking burgers.
                        2) They do not supply you with aprons
                        3) You have to pay for your meals (wtf!?)
                        4) apparently they have a very high turn-over, with as much as 3 and 4 people quitting a WEEK
                        5) apparently the boss likes to yell in peoples faces just because he is having a bad day (If nothing else I quit to avoid jail cause I would break his fucking mouth if he did this shit to me)
                        6) Not only does the kitchen receive NO tips but the oyster shucker position that I was going to PT there, also receives no tips.
                        7) I was expected to hide behind a dumpster to smoke a cigarette...lol! I laughed in his face so hard. I can understand smoking out of the view of customers....but behind a dumpster? Fuck no! I also didn't smoke behind the dumpster and dared him with unsaid energy to tell me something about it. All the kitchen staff huddled up behind a dumpster to smoke like scared rats, in fear of losing there completely bullshit job. I'm not the one. I only follow rules that aren't demeaning and stupid. Customers don't have to smoke behind a dumpster so, I don't either.
almost the entire kitchen staff was really low educated, ghetto types. I can't work with these people. I'm not talking about colors. I dont give a fuck what someones color is. I'm talking about ignorant people period.

In short, The Blind Pelican is a super busy new orleans bar being run like a burger king (and worse according to some of my bullet points). Not to mention I told this dude I will only work for the absolute most he can pay and this loser offers me $10 an hour, taxed.

LOL, I don't work for 10$ an hour taxed, or not taxed for that matter. I would be willing to take 10 on a very very short probationary period but this dude said "The kitchen makes 10". Wow, thanks for giving me some goal to strive for. If I start at 10 and stay at 10 there really is no reason to excel which means there is no reason for me to work there.

My quitting was anticlimatic. I was talking to the kitchen manager about the above list, he confirmed it all to be true, I shook his hand and left.

                        Back to the drawing board.

You're a very passionate person. I like you. Well I don't super-like you, but I like you. You remind me of the tall guy from Seinfeld (I think that his name was Kramer!) Please, have a cigarette... You'll feel better. If you don't smoke, chew some gum.
