  • bugging MindZ with my GeForce gripes

Hay guys, guess what I bugged MindZ with this morning?
    Sunday, October 18, 2015
    11:45 - H1∼∼: allo
11:45 - H1∼∼: can you help me decide on video settings in nVidia inspector
11:45 - H1∼∼: I've got it narrowed down to two selections
    11:46 - H1∼∼: one set for higher quality/appearance
11:46 - H1∼∼: and one set for better FPS
11:46 - H1∼∼: It's been my experience that the relative increase in FPS is far more than the decrease in visual quality
11:46 - H1∼∼: when I set these ten settings to their lowest values
    11:47 - H1∼∼: Main
    ..
    Ambient Occlusion Setting
    High quality
    Ambient Occlusion usage
    Enabled
    Anisotropic filtering mode
    Application-controlled
    Anisotropic filtering setting
    16x
    Antialiasing - Transparency Multisampling
    Enabled
    Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling
    8x Supersampling
    Antialiasing - Mode
    Enhance the application setting
    Antialiasing - Setting
    32x [32x CSAA (8 color + 24 cv samples)]
    Enable Maxwell sample interleaving (MFAA)
    Off
    Toggle FXAA on or off
    On
    11:47 - H1∼∼: Alternate
    ..
    Ambient Occlusion Setting
    Off
    Ambient Occlusion usage
    Disabled
    Anisotropic filtering mode
    User-defined / Off
    Anisotropic filtering setting
    Off (Point)
    Antialiasing - Transparency Multisampling
    Disabled
    Antialiasing - Transparency Supersampling
    Off / Multisampling
    Antialiasing - Mode
    Override any application setting
    Antialiasing - Setting
    Application-controlled / Off
    Enable Maxwell sample interleaving (MFAA)
    Off
    Toggle FXAA on or off
    Off
11:48 - H1∼∼: but my real concern is... organizationally I like to have everything .cfg-related to have everything set to 'main' and only set alternates (for better performance etc.) as needed
11:48 - H1∼∼: so I don't know if the increase in FPS is enough to warrant setting AWAY from my 'main' set (everything enabled) to my 'alternate set' (some stuff disabled to improve FPS)
11:49 - H1∼∼: I had the same problem with my DarkPlaces config
11:49 - H1∼∼: I solved THAT one by setting the main var's first and then setting alternators to... tone stuff down... afterrwards in a separate config layered on top of it
11:49 - H1∼∼: but i can't exactly follow that approach with system/driver settings for my grapics card...
11:52 - H1∼∼: so, as I figured, I could just 'have it written down' somewhere I would remmeber where I put it and, as long as I had the settings 'set up' somewhere, in text, I could refer back to THAT and set teh graphics card driver settings to 'alternate' as needed since that'd be the better one of the two to go to for... pragmatic reasons... as even if the 'main' set is better for organizational/asthethic reasons then at least I had the 'written down' portion to make up for it...
    11:53 - H1∼∼: nVidia Inspector
    settings
    nVidia GeForce GT745M
    GeForce 355.98 driver
    11:53 - H1∼∼: sorry mindz, I guess I been awfully right-brained this morning, heh...

Ambient Occlusion hits the GPU pretty hard.

Bloom Resolution can make or break how many FPS your getting as well, inside Advanced Lighting options or something to that effect.

those are the settings imo take away the most FPS.
