When I very first got Quake I was still using a 4x86 dx66 :/ and I had a very weak videocard. I had to run the game nearly 100% shrunken using - button to get any kind of decent gameplay out of it.

Now how can I utilize ioQuake3 GPL engine~thing......and make use of this.

Think we had the same PC

I remember when I got my first voodoo2 and being blown away at how well everything played... for a while I had thought the games were supposed to be that choppy, but I was enlightened when a friend let me install Quake on their decent PC (in 1996).

The game still looks amazing to me, I mean the fluidity of it and the full quick and responsive 360 degree of movement is fascinating - something not many games have pulled it off successfully or almost to the same degree.
The gemstone of gaming is Quake, so load it up and play some

I agree to a point here.

In it's raw form the graphics are dated unless compared to similar games from it's era (1996-2000). What I really like about Quake 1 is it's raw game-play which the full 3d kind of contributes to, but the fast paced, surreal physics mixed with the brutality of it all and having to use your imagination to really piece the story together is what I liked.

Games these days hold your hand and vocally tell you step by step what to do next and it's annoying. It makes the whole game feel like one big tech demo tutorial.
