  • AGP express?

First, there was PCI. Then PCI 2.0 I think. Then came AGP. Now we have PCI Express. So what's the next step? AGP Express? If you agree, vote yes, AGP Express. If you dont agree vote other and explain why.
looking back there was agp2x, agp4x, and agp8x. I think there will be PCI Express 32x then AGP express 64x. God, when we turn these uber powerful future-machines we would see nothing but a mushroom cloud and computer wreckage lol.

Reason why I voted other: wth is AGP-E? Never heard of it. Sounds silly.

For a thread based on personal opinion, I don't want to hear any of that!

This has got to be the dumbest thread ever posted to QuakeOne. I feel a little dumber just for having skimmed over it. We need a threadjack, stat!

comp.arch is a good place to find out about this stuff. I haven't been following it recently so I don't know what's over the horizon for host adapter interfaces. In the near term I see more PCI Express, with more lanes (32 compared to the current 16) and SLI using multiple PCI-E busses for more bandwidth.

Sure, the pendulum might swing back from multi-drop bus toward point-to-point again, or maybe tighter integration with the CPU, or even in the other direction, integrating the GPU with the display device. But what's the point of talking about this stuff when you don't even know what it means? Speculating in a vacuum about what name will be used to market the next host interface is silly. Read up on the tech in Wikipedia, then go to a tech newsgroup for a reasonable discussion. People here are Quake experts, not electrical engineers.

I think it's going to be all USB video.

LOL USB... you know how slow that would be, unless one video divice had loads of USB connectors? Then it would take up all your USB slots!! My motherboard has like 6 on-board and I have a usb extention thing on the back thet goes into the motherboard. Honestly, I think AGP slots are already faster than USB. Maybe not, I'm guessing.

There are already USB video options. My guess would be USB 3.0 Video (currently we have USB 2.0). Then you could have as many monitors as you have USB ports.
