I don't have anything interesting to say about that link except it looks dedicated mostly to games I don't have any interest in playing

But one thing on the site ("the professionals" category) reminded me of a recent discovery ...

I was Googling around for something and stumbled upon some sort of "Cyberathlete" site and found a hilarious forum post where someone said how lame the term "cyberathlete" is and rhetorically asked if they made a Gatorade for that sport.

Scattered around the internet, you see goofwads that for some reason or another want to be a "pro gamer" -- whatever the F that is (sarcasm) -- and get paid for wasting their life in front of a computer playing some game where the characters usually look like this:

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

Actually, from what i gathered it's supposed to be like ImageShack (?) etc where you can post your avi of your in-game experience. Not sure, i was looking at WarSow actually (quake2 related).

If quake1 had this support we wouldnt need banner ads

this is actually very interesting people.

the online sports athlete scene started with Thresh on Quake1, he was the first pro(fessional) gamer.

After him came Fatality who plays now quake3 and cs.

aside from knowing text book strategies, these guys are endowed with killer talent and reflexes.

so they get paid for playing games professionaly.

if u think u that good, u can go to one of these events hosted by the CPL and literally get your butt handed over to you by some 13 year old lol. i have read many stories about that on the internet.

i mean this is very cool, why hate on them? if they so good at playing games why not make money at the same time.

i wish i could do that, only that im not endowed with superhuman speed, agility, reflexes, and hand-eye coordination as these guys have. but i do have the knowledge

I don't hate on them, per se, except any argument equating playing a video game with athleticism.

Being an athelete requires years of training, physical conditioning, unbelievable displicine, sacrifice and a whole host of other things that video games have nothing in common with.

I guess I find any comparison deluded, just like how I involuntarily laugh when a "bowler" gets called an athlete on ESPN3.

                /Or maybe I'm being unfair, I dunno.

Are you taking the piss? Don't you even follow internet gaming? Wendel played painkiller for a long time where he won the million beating vo0. he probably now plays source or quake4, if anything. ofcourse fatality was a q1 player at one stage and even tried to join your leetest clan deathrow. Thresh was never if i remember a pro gaymer? the money involved back then simply was never that much, well other than winning a ferrari :>. He made his money from THAT website if i recall.

I agree with Baker, cyberathlete is quite a pathetic term, but it's a one thats here to stay. but hey 1 million playing a game, aint bad
Yet I still beat you more easily than a hammer can beat a fresh batch of Rowntree's fruit jelly.

Hey I think it would be great to win money off of games you enjoy against other players.

Playing games is enjoyable. Add money and everybody is playing thier very best, and I'm sure it's pretty intense.

I don't mind the term "cyberathlete" as that makes sense. You're an "athlete" on the internet. Calling these pro gamers an "athlete" all by itself is dumb and stupid.
