60%* of the quake community has an abstract setup like that in their quake folder. That being said, I beat you to it

        * This percentage was made up.

What's wrong with assembling content? Everyone does that.

Otherwise no site would not have a downloads section and things like Yellow's pack for Qrack would not exist.

Well, the problem with kids like this is that they give a fuck about licenses, fair usage etc. Things like this are the outcome: http://qexpo.quakedev.com/booth.php?id=17

I agree in sentiment, but really in Quake (and Doom as well) there are few things outside the DarkPlaces engine and Nexuiz that comply with all licenses.

For example, many maps and mods use textures from non-Quake games. I watched part of a Doom 2 movie on YouTube that had Quake weapons in it, for example.

I'm not saying licenses aren't important. I feel they are very important, and even do my best to honor wacky readmes in an 8 year old map and sometimes send emails to dead email addresses.

But I doubt I'm alone in wondering to what extent to honor things. In fact, I know I'm not alone.

Yeah, your Tails Quake example -- that was an interesting thing, but I believe ShadowTails was probably very "green" and I guess I see no honor in dumping on someone who is probably a 10-year-old kid excited about the game.

Really to me, what I find particularly bothersome -- and has nothing to do with your post at all -- is the fact I have always been disturbed by the human tendency towards "mob justice" where several people pile on someone like lemmings just because someone else did.

And even the above paragraph isn't directed towards anyone in this thread, I see it everywhere on the internet.

Yeah, major tangent that's for sure.

I should have started a new topic, yah I know. :d

I don't think he's looking for profit. I think he's just trying to make shit convenient.

                          Though

A pack with Qrack Dp Proquake with textures tools and such stuff would be very cool. I guess most online-quakers have already something like that in their quake-folder. But It would be a big step towards a newbie-friendly NQ :d

did you read the part where Solecord said:

While its a good idea to glue pieces together to make things easier for newbies or whatever...Calling it a Quake 1 Remake is a BIG sentence.

Your claim of making a Quake 1 Remake sounds noobish if you ask me, and I dout anyone will take this seriously unless you put some merit behind it. Meaning don't create another useless thing. Make it unique and only available through your creation and if people like it they will flurish to it

                            P.S
This wasn't meant to tell you that I think your idea is bad, goahead and create a Quake 1 Remake. But don't make it another Quake 10 year remake BS where the guy (whatever his name was) created a video of himself claiming how his Quake 1 remake was going to be on par with new games like Quake4/Doom3 whatever and then only provided some shady screenshots and no proof of production.

Remaking large chunks of the games art assets using 3d modeling (example 1, example 2) to provide for a level of detail unseen in the game industry in the visual detail of the world isn't proof of production? Let me know when Doom comes out then, they obviously haven't finished it either...

Whatever his name is, by the way, is Kedhrin Gonzalez, a project lead at NetDevil, someone who gets paid to make games, and who created very high resolution textures utilizing DarkPlaces' advanced texture techniques (which are more advanced than Doom3's) to provide a higher level of detail and even the illusion of extra geometry coming out of a texture (example 1, example 2) without modifying the map itself. If you consider such to be shady and a lack of proof just because you couldn't get a download link cause he treats his projects as serious matters, then that would make every game shady pretty much.
