  • New Gen Consoles

Anyone have any reasons to buy an XBOX 360, Sony PS3, or Nintendo Wii? The XBOX 360 has proven to be a great console for online multiplayer games while the Nintendo Wii has reinvented the power glove. The ps3 still doesn't have any good games yet because of the time it takes to make them. So is anyone going to buy any of these systems? Why? If you already own one or more, tell us why you bought it and give reasons why we should get it.

Being a retro fanatic who only gets pleasure when gaming on an Atari, NES, SNES, or an old PC box, I find it hard to figure out any reason why I should get any of these new systems. But today I found my reason to buy a Nintendo Wii sometime in 2008

I bought a PS3 1/2 months after it was released, took it back 2 days later, Not enough content.

The Xbox360 is a good console, its graphics aren't as great as the PS3 but its definitely next-gen and has a lot of games available.

I'd say, get an Xbox for now, in a year get a PS3.

If you have 1 or more kids then you are stuck with a Wii

I've got an Xbox 360 - very fun for multiplayer until your live subscription runs out. I plan to renew mine real soon, but for the time being I've been playing some older Xbox games that I missed out on (never had an original Xbox).

It's a nice console and I love the variety of games, especially the assortment of first-person shooters.

Nah, if I did have a console, I would be using it like a computer (mouse, keyboard), and I already have a kickass PC for gaming which I'm comfortable with, not to mention the functionality of the computer.

On the expense side, if you know what you're doing, you can build a totally new PC. PC vs Console, excluding the expense of a monitor (when you buy a console you generally don't buy a new TV), you can build yourself a decent computer for the price of a console. You can configure it any way you want to, and use it for so much more than games. Also, if you REALLY know what you're doing, you can turn around and buy cheaper parts and overclock them to save a bit of $$. You can't buy a slower xbox, they all come with the same hardware.

Bottom line, while a computer the same price of a console won't do games as well as the console, it will still be very acceptable, and you can go and overclock stuff and potentially make it faster than a console, while having more functionality for slightly more/slightly less $$.

I usually buy consoles to play with friends. PCs restrict that unless you get a few controller ports on it. But it's a lot cooler to play the real thing rather than a crappy emulation.

Play with friends on different computers on one server while enjoying having your own whole screen :rockout:

I have actually wondered about overclocking my PS2, if it is possible, etc. Those random slowdowns in Mercenaries suck.

Actually for the 1-month trial period that I had Xbox live, it was incredibly addictive. I was a little disappointed that I wasted the last bit of it playing Burnout Revenge (basically everyone choosing the same car and having your rank go DOWN even if you make 2nd or 3rd place. It wasn't worth the frustration) instead of something more fun like Halo 2 or Ghost Recon.

Most of my friends aren't computer savvy enough to figure out how to open ports. Also, I'd rather my friends and I hang out in the same area, not each of us on our computers in our mom's basement

Like when you have friends over at your apartment and you're bored. You don't tell them, "Hey guys, you all go home on your PC's and we'll play Counter Strike on a server". You play 4 player GoldenEye on the Nintendo 64! That or Pool. My pool table owns.
