  • First Encounters Thread

This thread is for describing your first encounters with other players, whether meeting them on a server, on a forum or by some other means.

    Yellow No. 5

I had disappeared from Quake in early 2004 and returned early 2005. My first full game back, I played a formidable player at Shmack and beat him by a few frags. It was a little bit of challenge. I said to myself "Yeah, I still got it". Little did I know, as time went on I would less and less often be doing the beating No. 5 thing.

    Canadian Sniper

Posted a lot in the little shout box at QuakeTerminus. Eventually I would see him on the RA server.

    MindfieldzX

One day out of nowhere comes MindfieldzX responding to a thread called "IHOC botting community":

I come reperesenting all that is "legal" in IHOC. You LOL Dole, know who I am and what I am capable of. ... I feel it's my duty to put you whiney females in their place. First off,IHOC obviously isnt the place for someone if they think everyone there bots,or cheats. Simply put,you step into IHOC,you get owned.IHOC isnt for the lame Quake 1 player who thinks everyone cheats,as a matter of fact,I can name off some people who WILL run your asses in a game of quake,on any mod.Dont judge what you cant understand,or even begin to compete with. I am the M!NDF!3LDZ X , I am out of the game temporarily, soon as I get my life straightended out,I WILL be playing on your server, funny thing is I dont see myself getting kicked for FACT based observations of botting,or any form of cheating.I do see me getting banned for simply "being on a better skill" level and owning the fuck outa each and everyone of ya. IHOC is my home,if anyone knows who is who is the botting community I would, more so than any of you all would, based on I play there more than you do.This issue is far from over, its just simply being delayed for reasons that are out of my control.

I knew I was gonna like him :d

    Chuck

Someone on Marlinspike once say hey connect to this server. I did. Chuck was the guy changing maps so I figured he was the Widomaker admin.

    IEEE 802.11

The often silent other guy on the Beatdown server. Dolemite talked a ton. IEEE was very quiet. If Dolemite was the Tick, I kind of thought of IEEE as the Tick's sidekick "Arthur" at first. I knew I had recognized the name from somewhere. It was because I had: http://quakefriends.8m.com/

    Trinca

One day at Rune Central last year, someone new posted looking for maps. I did my the best to find the maps, but he had already tried the links I told him about and they weren't the right ones.

    vb / Entar

One day last year when we were first creating prototypes for the QuakeOne.com site, no one knew about the site and then one day 2 mysterious guests register and post who had not been told about the undisclosed site address.

A mystery to this day and I felt bad because over the course of the next year, those 2 in particular must have posted at 3 or 4 incarnations of prototypes that we later scrapped and weren't really open.

    Yugo2Heck

In 2002, I had received permission to ban "Yugo2Heck" from Shmack for dominating the server and driving away all the players. I was more or less waiting for the next time he would play numerous games back-to-back-to-back-to-back. Then a player inadvertently told me who this anonymous player was and I'm like "Hey, I know of that guy".

    Jackhole

One day in 2003, someone new posts about GameStatus.Net. Later I discovered he had run servers I had played on and ran a messageboard I read with some frequency.

    ---
And this seems like a good stopping point because that's plenty

Quakeone.com - Being exactly one-half good and one-half evil has advantages. When a portal opens to the antimatter universe, my opposite is just me with a goatee.

So while you guys all have to fight your anti-matter counterparts, me and my evil twin will be drinking a beer laughing at you guys ...

I had seen Canadian's various messages on the Quake Terminus shoutbox, and finally "met" him around here.

Wow that was a while ago... and I only remember seeing you on RA just recently

        --

        Yellow No. 5

Saw him on RA a lot and don't remember getting along with him at first. Then I saw him at xCTF and we had a chat. Every now and then I see him at RA and he kicks my ass. I tease him for fun but if he ever wanted me to stop calling him "Old Yeller", I'd stop.

        Baker

        He posts a lot.

        Baron

Always saw him at Trinicom, owning at CTF

        Gunter

First person I talked too after my long break from quake. Used Gamespy to find his server and he basically told me the roots of what was happening since I left.

        Spooker

I don't know where this guy came from but he has like two personalities. One that's annoying and one that's mature.

        Gamefreak

First appeared in FvF and was a total Newb to quake. Didn't know nothing. Now it's been a few years and he probably knows a lot more than I do. He's also been 13 years old for 2 years apparantly

        Blue Ninja

My comrad ninja in FvF who would always come up with tactical strats to win team deathmatches. He has left the Quake scene to focus on school, work and a girlfriend.

        Axel

I basically see this guy everywhere. Doesn't matter which server you go to, you'll have a chance of seeing him.

        SurferGirl

        Total bot

        Catgirl

I don't even know how this started but we have a permanent truce in Shmack. We also play RA to train. I notice she camps a lot in Shmack . I also get annoyed when HappyBunnie is also playing (they wear the same pink colours so I can't tell who's who).

        Rook

Introduced to me by Yellow, he's down to earth and knows a lot about admining servers.

        Bank

Just meeting him recently on the QuakeOne forums, he's got jumpy ping

        The Turk

The funniest player alive. Always hangs out at FvF and does not say a word. He sneaks behind you and pushes you into lava and stuff. I don't think he likes me very much either He always plays as Laser Android.

        --

ok that's either all I can think of atm or I'm tired. I know there are lots of people I forgot to mention (people I knew before I took the Quake Break, don't recall their names)

Here are a few of mine....

          SOVS

Met him on quake.xoc.net:26666. I was under the name "Biznatch" at the time. I thought he was a cool guy, and later he invited me to the eSx server. This was before I knew anything about forums (and typing "test (quake server)" in console). So I came on and he was playing against Apocalypse and creating a demo. When they got done playing, I asked about joining eSx.

          Apocalypse

Same thing - met him on the eSx server when he and SOVS were having that 1 on 1. Eventually Apoc helped me figure out how to use mouse on Quake, and I got much better at the game (and enjoyed it a lot more).

          George

I actually met him on FVF. This was back when I played under a lot of different names, including "Poltergeist". Well George came in as "Hat", and I thought he was the most annoying dude ever. So while as "Poltergeist", I would get killed and go into observer mode. George would keep playing until there were no more monsters. He'd jump into the exit and keep telling me to come in and exit. I wouldn't say anything, and just played around with him until I left.

I soon found TLTQ and learned who he was. And then talked to him and we settled our differences.

          Canadian Sniper

Just some dude I saw on FVF and Shmack all the time. He always said something about having a "Cyborg vs. Sniper" match on FVF, but it never happened. (Me being the Cyborg, of course)

          Toyo_Mr. 2

Played against him on Widomaker. Thought he was a cool dude, although he never said anything.

          ProPain

Another regular at Widomaker. He always said "God what a mess.", and I would respond, "Mmmm....BEEFY!!"

          GameFreak

I want to say I met him on FVF....I think. He always seemed to be on when Gunter was on as well. Don't remember my first time meeting him, though.

          Gunter

He always jumped on FVF while I was there. I thought he was a great guy - he was always in a good mood from what I saw.

          X-Men

I only met him once or twice but it was on FVF as well. Don't remember a whole lot about him.

          D'Rouen

I believe I met her on Shmack. I remember something funny, though - I didn't know she was a girl that whole time until I actually talked to her. Anyway, I think we became good friends just after she wrote the first part of her story, "Banished".

          P.I.T.A.

I met PITA on her forum, net-tyme.com. I didn't know a whole lot about her, but D' insisted that she was a great influence to the Quake world, so I finally met her (and added her to my stories). PITA and I now like to jump on Quake while American Idol is on and criticize the contenders. It's always funny.

          Zeki

Probably met him on Shmack. All I know is that when I got good at Quake, he suddenly considered me to be his "quake hero".

          Catgirl

Not sure where exactly I met her at, but I want to say IHOC or Shmack. We became good friends, and eventually started doing this thing where we wouldn't shoot each other when we ran into each other. She always hated it when I changed my colors, though, and I always hated it when there were two people wearing similar "pink" colors.

          Yellow No. 5

I think I met him on BDA. Always a funny guy with an upbeat attitude.

If I think up any others, I'll post them up.

So I'm not the only one eh?

                  X-Men

Seen this guy either playing on FvF or playing god on FvF. Good guy and talks a lot about his loving family. But since he's the admin, we all joked about him dling porn when it lagged.

                  Gulliver-Trans

Met this guy on FvF and he was basically the biggest threat in FvF Deathmatch.

                  --
QuadRaptor, you remember the old man who always played on FvF when X-Men was around? He had dark brown colours but I can't remember his name. Good guy.

These are the coolest bots in the quakeworld. They reside at 209.221.185.146:26666 - Xoc For Bots! THEY NEVER LEAVE, WHAT QUAKE JUNKIES.

Not sure - the only person that wears brown on FVF I can think of is AXEL, but I'm sure that's not who you're talking about.

Think his name started with "Old" but I can't remember. I remember Gunter guessing it correctly one time. Anyways it's not important.
