  • Save a YouTube video to your computer

    1. Go to the video you want to save, let's use http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZA1NoOOoaNw as an example.
    2. Wait for the video to become fully downloaded (when the red bar under the video is completely filled)
    3. Go to www.keepvid.com and copy the url (http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZA1NoOOoaNw) of the video and paste it into the box. Select youtube from the drop-down box.
    4. Click download.
    5. You will see a box appear called download. Click ›› Download Link ‹‹.
    6. When you save it, rename it to whatever.flv (I used bennylava.flv for this one)
    7. Use Freez FLV-AVI/MPEG/WMV converter to convert it to your file format of choice. If you just "add" your .flv and click Start, it will convert to a .avi file. You will find it in c:/videooutput

Now you have a .avi you will have forever if you take care of it, regardless what YouTube does with the video.

You are the thread creator, i am looking for a few regulars to post back and be like "hey yeah i downloaded it and i don't have a trojan on my computer."
Although you've been around for awhile and would seem reputable I have no way to tell if someones hacking forums accounts to post links to shady .exe files. I'm just covering my bases, there is no hostile offense intended in your direction.

it's fine dude, if you don't believe me run a virus scan on it

I'm pretty sure you can set it to scan just one file

theres a much easier way..... use firefox, and get the add-on called download helper. then theres a simple menu to save it as a .flv. also, if u install realplayer then you can right click on the video and save it, though i can't vouch personally for that method

If you are (understandably) cautious of the download you might consider http://media-convert.com/ Once you have the .flv file as described in Foq's helpful post you could theoretically upload it to the convert site and specify your desired conversion type and specifications. Once converted you could then download the new format file as required for 24 hours. That way you would get your file converted without the need for any install. I hope this helps

              Kind regards

The only sure way you'll be able to tell if it's a bad exe or not is to decompile it and check the source code (even though it will look FUCKED). If the site doesn't provide the source, fuck the exe it's not worth it. foqer doesn't understand that anti-virus programs don't catch all backdoors. And once you double click that exe, you may think everything is cool even when there's a hidden backdoor in your system.

I've always used the Firefox plug-in Spooker mentioned to get those Britney Spears vids that Mr Burns keeps hassling me for, very useful, as is the 'supported sites' list it has. But I'd rather have painful rectal surgery than install Real or Quicktime. I've always used, and had no problems at all, with the two alternatives.
                  Real Alt - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm
                  QT Alt - http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...lternative.htm
They both use Media Player Classic. The same as WMP 6.4. No clutter, easy to use and most importantly no bs. (careful with file associations)

But to convert vid files, I've recently turned to Super. I haven't seen a free app with so many damn variables ! It lives up to it's silly name.

Yeah but you didn't have any without 'H loves Brittney' or "That's me bird" or various parts of your anatomy (magnified) crudely photoshop'd over the top. Not a pretty sight - before or after. Cheers anyway
